Not only did our extremely disappointing US striker score the only goal in the semi-final to get Toronto into the "big match" in the MLS, but he's just scored to put them ahead in the final.
Crap standard - what do you expect ?
A cold night in Toronto, as opposed to a...hot night in... L2, maybe even Scottish L2.
Happy fans mind...unlike back in my home town. ****ing football, never fails to baffle :emoticon-0100-smile
Mind you, 12 minutes left...the HCAFC supporter's jinx may still come into play.
Sod the beer, crack open a bottle of wine.

A cold night in Toronto, as opposed to a...hot night in...

I'm watching the MLS Cup this afternoon, a rematch of last year's Cup between Toronto FC and Seattle Sounders. Seattle won last year on penalties.

Our old friend Jozy Altidore just scored in the 67th minute to put Toronto ahead. This was just minutes after he nearly got in a fight, which would probably have led to his second red card of the playoffs. Such a hothead.

And that still only makes him the second most successful sportsperson in his house this year.

    2-0 Toronto !!! 2nd in injury time.
It may be a crap standard, but an accomplishment nevertheless.

We seem to have posted almost simultaneously on this topic (see OT thread: "Totally Off Topic; Altidore").
    Not a lot of interest.
    Deserved win for TFC.

I was over in Toronto last week, saw the Argonauts (best nickname in us sports?) beat the Stampeders in the final of the Canadian gridiron comp. Looks like a good time to be a Toronto sports fan.

Not if you're an ice-hockey fan ! They won nowt since I emigrated here - 45 years ago.
Toronto had a little baseball success. Rubbish game.
Football (soccer) rubbish over here also. Ice hockey's gone that way ( franchise expansion etc etc).
Basketball - spend a **** load of money for a lot of fit guys busting their arses only with 2 minutes to go in a 3 hour borefest.
Canadian gridiron marginally better than it's US counterpart. Darts is more exciting.
Don't get me wrong. I love Canada, especially Toronto.
I'm enjoying watching the British snooker tournament on BBC at the moment. Now there's a sport !
Hope you had an enjoyable visit to the big T.O. Other than the sport, it's brilliant.
Sorry mate - don't mean to be critical of your observation btw. <cheers>

Toronto is one of the great North American cities, and I always love to visit there. I arranged a business trip there in the summer and attended a Blue Jays game at Skydome. I had seen the Blue Jays play at Exhibition Stadium in 1985 on the first business trip of my career. (By the way, I am only two ballparks short of the entire circuit, plus 17 ballparks no longer in existence.) Nice to see the Leafs competitive again. Some of the best sports jokes I've ever heard were Maple Leaf jokes. I suppose they're dormant now. Congrats on their first MLS Cup and the Canadian Treble.
