So who out of chelsea, mancity, manu and liverpool have spent most but more importantly improved their squads. Chelsea has spent 150mil if you include the 13 mil for avb. In my opinion they don't seem that better off then they were in early Jan, infect they have dropped a notch. Mireles is still confusing to me as hes not a play maker so dont know where he'll play for chelsea. Liverpool are the second big spenders with 110mil. Many of my fellow reds will quickly tell you that we only have a net spend of 37 mil. Looking at the pool squad i'll say it's improved drastically with practically every player key to pools success. So good job done by kenny. Man city are third with about 107mil spent. They got 2 world class players in nasri and aguero as we've all seen theyve already made their mark. Hargreaves will also prove to be an astute signing in my opinion so all in all I think they did very well in the transfer market and are setup to challenge Manu. Manu are fourth with about 50mil. Young and jones don't need any introduction and have fitted in very well in an already performing side. Sir Alex just tweaked here and there and in my opinion did very well in this window. The league is theirs to lose to man city. So all in all I'd say chelsea is the only team that didn't improve their squad having spent more money. Interested to hear what everyone else thinks?

Our net spend is actually 32.4m.

I think the best business was done by Liverpool and United.

City and Chelsea spent big, but as usual they both spent lots on 1 luxury player. It's not very good business wise if you have major areas that need addressing, and there's always a chance the big money signing isn't worth it. However, Aguero is certainly a player to look out for.

Chelsea have spent 150mil, but on who? Not many I can name off by heart... Torres, Luiz, Lukaku, Meireles...

    Torres - 50mil
    Luis - 21mil
    Mata - 25mil
    Lukaku - 19mil
    Mireles - 12mil
    Coutios - 8mil
    Romeu - 4mil
    Avb - 13mil

    That equals to 152mil

    Welcome to the forum!

I'm going to say Liverpool have done the best business because i'm a Liverpool fan! I do think Liverpool and United have done the best business in the window. Liverpool have strengthened the squad and brought well. Adam looks like a quality player and Enrique looks like excellent value at £6M and Suarez and Carroll will become an excellent partnership up-front. Downing was needed as Liverpool lacked width. United have replaced the players that retired with some top-quality younger players who will do well for them. City have also done well with the signings of Nasri and Aguero. I'm not too sure on Clichy in a defensive sense but he's got time.

Chelsea have brought Lukaka who will replace Drogba in the coming years. I think Luiz is a good player and a decent signing. I believed they signed a Barca players who is unproven and they got Meireles. I can't see how Meireles will help Chelsea in midfield because he's not the Modric type of played they were looking for. Mata is a top-quality signing though and will do well for them.

Not too bothered about anyone else. The key thing is we are actually enjoyable to watch again. Fast, fluid football. Liverpool is a project once again. A MASSIVE Thank u to the new owners...

Adams is a 250,000 grand player as proved in the spl , yet in epl you 've paid ten million over the mark , today for Scotland he was shown up again your league is killing football . Best player was your old player Baros

Welcome to the board and a very sensible first post. Now that the window is closed and all the figures are in I am pretty happy and think we did the best business (stoke?), maybe not in the amounts we spent but in the amount we have strengthened the squad by.

Manu made some good signings and even though the keeper looks very dodgey (mistake every game so far) I expect him to come good as he is getting away with them. I was suprised by them signing young, not in terms of quality as he is good, just that they already had two good wingers and I cant see nani sitting on the bench for long.

So although united can be happy with their business, the massive improvement to our squad strength for what we spent is brilliant.

Done well for us so far, maybe it because we understand how to get the best out of a player?

Liverpool still won't finish higher than 5th, you might have filled every place but you let 2 of your best players go in meireles and torres. Gerrards always getting injured, Adams an average player same as Carroll,Henderson and Downing, there 5th-20th players not players that are going to get you anyway near the top 4 or in contention for your first " premier league " title, Suarez is the only good signing, Torres hasn't done much for us but its more the point his not with you anymore therefore making you weaker, you really think torres would be having the troubles with us at liverpool? You can laugh but he'd still be banging them in for liverpool.
Lukaku is one of the highest regarded young players and has everything already at 18 and is going to be one of the worlds best strikers so that's a very good signing and a area where we needed improving on because drogbas getting on.
Mata after one game has already showed he can adapt to the premier league at the drop of a pin, his the perfect player we need on the left, a player that can run and beat defenders put in a decent cross or pick a pass and score a goal. Another great signing needed.
Courtious is highly regarded as one of the best young keepers as well at the moment and has the physique , presence and ability to become one of the best and loaning him out was perfect business. Another great signing as we need back-up for cech in the future.
Luiz - One of the best attacking young defenders at this moment in time and is already a hero for scoring vs man united and man city, defending needs work but here get better with age and will be filling terrys boots in the future. Another great signing.
Torres - Hasn't fired so far but still one of the worlds best strikers and made a weak liverpool side even more weaker.
Meireles - Great midfielder for liverpool last year, scores goals can pick passes and is a pacey player, another great signing considering our midfield was weak.
Haven't seen romeu before so can't comment on him but theres reasons why this article is stupid and pointless.
Case closed night night, and stick that in your pipe and smoke it :)

I think Chelsea and United did the best business.

Liverpool have spent lots but on mainly average players and will do well to get 4th, they also sold their best midfielder in Meireles which was a big U-Turn for them as well.

The signings of Lukaku, Mata, Meireles and Romeu will bring some much needed life into the squad and now Luiz, Torres and Sturridge can have their first full season at the club they will be like new signings as well.

Nasri and Aguero are top signings for City as well, I reckon City will win the Champions League this season but miss out on the League.

He wasn't our best midfielder. He was going to be an impact/squad player for us this season.

He was by a long way, he and Suarez saved you from embarrassment at the Emirates. He is head and shoulders above any midfielder you have. Ironically your best two midfielders Meireles and Aquilani are now at other clubs.

    <laugh> You don't have a clue.

Meireles our best midfielder? Then why didn't he start 1 of our first 3 games?

I can see you have your rose tinted glasses on now he's a Chelsea player.

It's great how fans from other clubs think they know our players better than us. Best midfielder? only if you think a season consists of 5 MOTD clips.

Liverpool's squad now is a massive improvement to when Woy left but some of you seem over-confident that you will regain 4th this season.

If we base our "hopes" of finishing 4th on our league form since Kenny came back in january until last week its fair to say we have every chance of finishing 4th,on the other hand Spurs have the thursday night cup and a total slump(so far)in league form to contend with so why would Spurs fans have more rights to feel optimistic than us?

awww have i upset the liverpool fans :( :( :( does the truth hurt :( :( :( aww cry me a river, who needs a crystal ball to see your going to come 5th? your not good enough, your team just does not cut it full stop. And if you really think meireles isn't one of your best midfielders you obviously don't know nothing about your own team considering he was voted the PFA Player of the year last year.( and maybe we did pay over the odds for torres but we still took your best player away from you, but 20million for henderson LOL or 35million for carroll LOL , or 50million for torres or 12 for meireles, i no what deals i'd rather have ). Anyway back to the subject... You all go on about meireles like his a average player just because he hasn't started a game this season, if i was you i'd be more worried that your manager don't know what his doing Downing,Adam,Henderson,Gerrard ( when he finally returns ) What a world-class midfield that is, watch out us,man city and man u, and watch out barca and madrid next year that midfield will have everyone pooing their pants at night if there coming up against that. I do love bitter liverpool fans, before - torres is hero, meireles is hero... torres leaves " a day later - torres is a c**t.. meireles leaves ... meires is a c**t. just face it they want to join a club that can actually challenge for things other than the carling cup and doesn't have to play there full team to beat Exeter 3-1 LOL. Anyway off to have nightmares about watching us come up against that midfield, scary stuff boys scary stuff
