Before I got my sick note, the majority of games I attended were away ones. Over the decades I’ve taken various friends and family and whatever team they support made them ‘Saints for a day’. Without exception they agree that the 3000 odd who travel are the biggest bunch of nutters in the football world. They are simply the best.

So chuffed for them that they saw us win.

Respect you lot

Fair play to our away support. Let's face it, travelling to away games in the PL is almost always a lost cause. This season though needs a special mention, because not only is it likely to be a loss but the prospect of total humiliation thrown in as an added bonus.

Sold out every away game this season. Genuinely some of the best away fans in the country.

Numbers have been remarkable the last two seasons, not known anything like it in my time going. Generally we've always struggled for numbers anywhere north of Brum but that seems to have gone out the window.

United is the only league match we've not sold 3000 (or full allocation at smaller grounds) for this season and it was a Thursday night in January on TV with another away 3 days later. And we still sold 2.5k.

Amazing support given how utterly abject we've been all season.

Yeah hats off. I have missed probably 6 or 7 games at St Mary’s. I say missed, I mean not gone to because I didn’t want to waste my time, so hats off to those that spend a lot more time and money supporting this team this year.

Away games just feel more fun and the result tends to not piss me off as much.

Totally agree. I have had some great days and evenings out following Saints. Sadly the football was a bit crap, but hey. Being applauded by Forest fans as we went down to Division One; getting soaked in the ‘Gene Kelly’ stand watching us get beaten in Blackpool (having watched the Skates win at United in the Cup before our game); penalty misses costing us at Derby in the play offs. These sort of games stand out. Perverse bloody lot aren’t we?

On the other hand, seeing Shane Long score at Ainfield, Cedric score at Wigan, and Steve Moran score at Fratton, made all the suffering worthwhile.
