People need to stop kidding themselves that the Golden Boy wouldn't do this to us.

He IS doing it to us.

Clubs do not bid for players unless the player is up for it. When do clubs ever bid for a player, for the player to then say "I don't want to sign for you!" It may break down over personal terms, but club's only bid when they know the player is up for it. We did it with Suarez and Adam.

Balague didnt just pluck this out of his arse. Makes me laugh this 'we want you to listen to Chelsea's offer'. We did listen, and we said **** off.

I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if Torres comes out and says it's all bollocks, but it will only happen if Chelsea don't have an offer accepted and he has to stay here.

Clubs don't put bids in for players without first making sure that the player is up for it. When do you ever hear of a situation where a club bids for a player, and the player laughs and says 'I wouldn't sign for you in a million years!'. Doesn't happen, generally only personal terms will stop it, and often they've already been agreed before the bid is lodged with the players club.

The way it works is that clubs go to the player/agent first, and test the water. If they get the response they're looking for, then they put a bid in with the club.

Chelsea wouldn't have bid unless they had the go ahead from Torres and/or his agent. Given that his mates in the Spain squad were saying last summer he wanted to go to Chelsea and they were surprised it didn't happen, I don't see why this is hard for people to believe.

It may or may not happen, but the idea that Torres is an innocent bystander in all this just isn't plausible.

My issue isn't that Chelsea want him, or that he wants to go there. My issue is that there is only three days left in the window, and if he forces this through and leaves us in the ****, then it would say a lot about his character.

For me it should have happened 3 weeks ago, or it should wait until the summer. Not now.

As far as I am concerned he may as well have refused to play in half the games he's played this season, as it was clear he wanted to be anywhere other than out there on the pitch.

As for Chamberlain and Adebayor, well I'm not sure we did bid for either, but if we did bid for them, then yes, I'd bet that we did sound them out to see if they'd be interested. Obviously we wouldn't have been the only interested parties though, but if they'd said they weren't interested we wouldn't have bid.

That's how football works, player/agent first, then make a bid. You think Chelsea hadn't sounded out Gerrard and Struan Marshall before they bid for him twice?

If they offer £40m & Anelka I'd snatch their hands off, as personally I'd rather have that than have a sulking Torres for the rest of the season, which is the risk we run if we refuse to let him go.

God I hope he doesnt go there. I dont agree with players going to rivals. It shows a massive lack of respect. But hey lets not get down, its out of our control, who knows he might want to stay, and maybe this will force NESV to digg deaper into their pockets. Young please!

If it goes through, it better be a good sum of money and a player ( heard 40 mil and Anelka)..... I know Torres is massive for us for so many reasons, but you get Anelka and can spend 40 mil on players ( young, Marin, Turan, etc) you can really still have an electrifying attack and could have more balance to the squad.

Still do not want Torres to go but this is not the first time and won't be the last we have to deal with this.

It's not that he wants to leave is it? It's that he apparently wants to go to that lot.

Thought he would look abroad. Anyway we should not budge for less than 50mill. It is January.
If he wants to go let him. We could bring in 2 decent replacements for that kind of money, at least then we will not have to rely on just 1 man for the goals.

I think Chelsea are just stirring. Theyve put in big bids for loads of players to no avail so they thought they'd have a pop at unsettling us and see if they could get a cheeky transfer. Not for one minute do I believe Torres has asked to speak to Chelsea and the fact we annouced so quickly that we had turned it down means we're not even considering negotiations. He will stay at least until the end of the season I guarantee. Otherwise I'll eat my hat!

I agree. It would be tragic if he went to Chelsea. I have that same sick feeling when I saw the press conference with Owen. I will never forgive Owen, although his departure would be far worse than Torres to Chelsea. Lets hope its speculation, but i'm not sure.

I wonder if Atletico Madrid would do a swap - Torres for Aguero? I doubt it, but that would be some deal.

If he does go there and we beat them at Stamford Bridge next Sunday, it'd top 4-1 at Old Trafford for me

As Tony Barrett put it: Has a club ever made a record signing & been engulfed in depression like LFC are tonight?

Good article. It seems spot on to me. Will just have to wait and see now but if he doesn't get a transfer he will just sulk for the rest of the season.

As far as I know the situation is as it was this morning when Balague got absolutely ****ing panned for telling people what they didn't want to hear. Chelsea put in a bid, we rejected it, Torres isn't happy it was rejected.

Guillem's track record is mixed, but he is not going to go on sky telling the world that Torres wants Liverpool to consider a bid from Chelsea unless it's true. He knows Torres, he knows Torres' agent, and he wouldn't make a statement like that unless a) it was true, and b) they were ok with him doing it. He'd have far too much to lose doing that.

I hope he goes, even if we don't have time to get anyone in.

Actually, I don't care that it's Chelsea. I'd probably be bothered if I had any affection for Torres, but I haven't had that for a long time so I'm really not arsed.

In fact, I'd much prefer him to go to Chelsea than City, because City are on the up and I could see Chelsea starting to slide as loads of their players are about to start slowing down if they haven't already.

If he's going there to win trophies, he may be in for a rude awakening

I really don't want him to when we have no time to get anyone else in.

1, He feels as part of LFC as Gerrard, and whilst I know he isn't, he's been here for 4 years and has been a huge goalscorer for us. It will be hard to let go that he's gone.

2, He probably won't leave for an inflated price at the moment if he wants to leave. If we left it for 6 months of goalscoring to show he's back on form he'll be worth a lot more in the summer.

3, We won't have enough time to buy a proven goalscorer. Torres has scored the majority of our goals this season.

4, There is no guarantee Suarez will thrive in this league, and it may take him a while.

5, It will shake the team up losing an important team member and could set us back weeks.

I don't think the fsg are dick heads, they know selling him now would be a huge mistake and would effectively destroy the moral of the team and fans! If he go's it should be in the summer and he should be made to hand in a request, so we all know he wants out!

Yup, I agree. He needs to say something either way. At the end of the day, if he doesnt want to be here then he should go. Same goes for Gerrard. We our making ourselves look smaller than Torres, just like United with Rooney, who I suspect have a mutual agreement to leave in the summer. We need to man up, show some steel, and determine where his loyalty lies. YNWA

He wants out. He handed in a transfer request which was rejected by the club. Ouch.
