He isnt showing any signs of his former glory in pre-season and with chelsea looking to further invest in strikers it wouldn't be too early to call him schevenko mark 2..

Pre-season games are for getting fit. If Torres gets no goals or lots of goals pre-season,it means very little either way.

On the contrary, having a good pre season allways leads into a good season.

Could have been worse and Chelsea could have spent £35 million on a championship pikey.

    Really??

Just shows what you know then. Darren Bent had a blinding pre season for Spurs and then what happened????

Sheva looked great in pre season for us in his first year also.

    File this under WUM.

Whether Torres is the success he was at Lpool has a lot to do with whether he can regain the pace he once had prior to his injuries. I have not seen any evidence that a good or poor pre season has much relevance to how a season will pan out. Probably a WUM, 100 years, but a pretty harmless one.

I'm not sure Torres is as fast as he was in that first season for Liverpool. I think injuries have take their toll (you've got Rafa to blame for that)

At £50m he has got an awful lot to prove not to be labelled Sheva II

Last seasons pre season i remember dimitar berbatov and samir nasri banging in the goals. It usually is a good indication of who will start the season well

I sort of hope that FT has a good season, i don't hold any grudge against him now for leaving i nothing him, couldnt care either way.

The one thing i will say is i believe he has lost that yard of pace which made him such a special striker, it enabled him to get one step ahead of the defender most of the time. With all of his hamstring problems hes probably slowed down a tad which is resulting in his struggles. Similar to Michael Owen in that way.

Id be happy to be proved wrong because he is fantastic to watch on his day!

This is probably the biggest season in his career, I pray it's a good'un for the player and the club.

However I think a poor world cup and then playing for 2 teams badly out of sorts last year contributed to his form but he has shown quality for us at times without getting as many goals that some of his performances perhaps deserved.

It is quickly swept over how bad all our strikers were for the second half of the season (except studge!!), we wont be that bad again.

Torres is a good player but rated Drogba the better, Drogba has no equals when on form. Just ask the Arsenal defence <ok>

Anyone will be bogged down with 50 mil price tag. But if people continue to talk only about that it is not going to help.

No-one talked about 85 mil for Ronaldo.

    then why now ?

Like AVB says people are obsessed in pointing out poor Nando's lack of form.

Torres needs the team to be set up to play to his strengths which Hodgson and Carlo didn't do last season. He played in a poor Liverpool team in the first half of last season which that coupled with the 50 mil price tag has shot his confidence. Villas-Boas needs to get a full pre season from him and I think he will get Torres back to the player he was.

And as for the media I don't know what their problem is.... Torres didn't decide he was worth 50 mil. Abramovich was desperate to get him as he anticipated he would get Chelsea the goals to win the League and the Champions League which didn't work. If the media are basing players performance on their price tag then surely that means that there is the same pressure on the likes of Andy Carroll, Stewart Downing, Jordan Henderson etc as those three are no where near worth the value they were bought for. How are they different to Torres?

Torres will be on fire the season , nobody will come close to scoring as many non penalty as him this campaign in League !! . Although he will struggle both games against the mighty Swans .... (whistling )
