http://www.goal.com/en/news/9/england/2012/10/16/3453345/-? "When I heard about Hillsborough I got excited, as I have known a lot of people who lived that, who cried with that ... somehow, I made it mine," Torres told El Pais. Whatever that means....
somehow he took it to heart? Felt emotional about it. It was a big driver behind the team in 2009 remember.
It's like a girlfriend who was the best sex ever, then leaves you for a chavvy twat down the road. Of course you'll be upset and angry, but at least you know she isn't putting out anymore...
I still thought I was going out with my girlfriend six months after she dumped me. Maybe we should follow her lead and get an injunction.
I don't like the hate he gets singled out for, deep down he's an honest hard working professional who wants to win trophies during his career. He hasn't been in scintillating form since arriving at Chelsea but he's won the trophies he coveted whilst we've had to settle for the League Cup. It must be pretty **** to be so hated by the fans you once heavily relied upon, and I think part of him regrets leaving, but at the end of the day it's a game settled by winners medals and he has them in abundance. I'll always appreciate Nando for his goals while he was with us, as well as a very generous sum of money from Chelsea.
All of that is true, but the way he left leaving it so last minute meaning we got Andy Carroll, and then he started slagging off the club immediately after that transfer window. He has calmed down on it now obviously but that January and February he left a sour taste in a lot of people's mouths. bozz put it best with the old Figo line " we hate you so much because we loved you so much".
I don't think there is that much hate, more indifference. I was pissed off at the time but couldn't give one now.
I still think he was pushed out a little bit, very similarly to Raul Meireles in the following transfer window. The club wouldn't dare outrage fans by selling their best player just because a large offer came in, I think the majority of people (myself included) believed Torres at his best was too good to sell, no matter what the price. I think his hand was forced and he was told to hand in a transfer request. Meireles claims this happened to him also and I genuinely believe it to be the truth. After the whole ordeal, Torres was left to deal with the fans outrage whereas Liverpool came out of it looking the innocent guys, robbed of their best player due to greed. I could be wrong though, it's just my opinion.
Possibly, I think another thing that grated people was under Dalglish he started to hit some good form again and then was off. He did hang around for Hodgson so props to him on that!
Just to echo Bluff's comments - I don't have a problem with Torres wanting to play at the highest level and compete for trophies. Let's face it - Chelsea are in a better position to do that. Torres has been a quiet person off the pitch, a good professional. We had Roy in charge (then soon Kenny) and the club had no real direction. I wouldn't say I hate him, but I am disappointed in the way that he left. Few days before the end of the transfer window which caused us to panic buy and the rest is histroy. The fact that he was unbelievably good is why I can't hate him. Still one of my favourite LFC players of the modern era.
For me, he may well have been forced out the door, and he may well have gotten some money to not say anything, and if that is the case, he should have done that, instead of saying things like he was at a big club now. If he wanted to have a pop at the club, he should have turned down the hush money.
Torres repeatedly said we wanted another striker to come in as to much pressure was being put on him. Especially considering his injuries. In came Suarez. What could those 2 have done together? With Downing and Henderson on the wings!!!!
means he's got some form of human compassion unlike some...... it doesn't change the fact he says what he wants to suit himself and then does the opposite.... in the end he's no red... just a merc.
I was very pissed off when Torres left. Why last minute? Why be a **** afterwards too? Why join a rival that was in a similar position to us (at the time)? However, in hindsight, he made the right decision. With Meireles' comments fitting with Torres', he may well have been forced out too. Club the club afford to turn down £50m...? I will always appreciate the time he played for us and I would love to see the Torres of old again, just not againt Liverpool!
