Its Torres' fear of not being the main man at Anfield which has led to his dramatic transfer request. Torres sees a younger, fitter, player with a far higher goals to games ratio joining the club as a threat to his status as Kop idol. So instead of having a bit of backbone and knuckling down for the fight(of which there would be none, imo Suarez was brought in to compliment Torres not replace him) he has thrown his toys out of the cot. I'd very much like for Torres to come public and square his corner, tell us who has verbally abused him. Tell us the truth instead of half baked lies.

No, sorry, I can't for one second believe that is the case. He begged us to invest in the squad, so we have, and now he wants out because of it? No way. This is about mon£y, pure and simple. Chelsea rumoured to be offering 200k a week!

Yeah, I agree with Red. It's not as if he'll be the main man at Chelsea either, with their front line. I'd imagine he would be at first, but as soon as he gets injured or drops off the pace a bit, they'd stick somebody else in.
We've been waiting 3 or 4 windows for them to bring in another stirker, and just when we do it, Torres greets the news by saying 'sorry lads, I want to go.'

yo Red, hit the nail on the head, its money and nowt else. good riddance if thats his attitude, look what u can buy for very little if u look around, the Manks got Hernandez for 7mill, Wenger has built an entire team for £17.65p and the Chavs got the silky skills of goal machine Shevchenko or a mere 30mill (i`m being ironic here) so not all is a disaster if we can get 40mill for a player that gets injured a lot, sulks and also falls over if the wind changes direction

Yeah, the money offered isn't really a problem. 40m and a player would be great. It's just that he's left us 2 and a bit days to sort it out.

Oh and the £50m clause is there. There have been suggestions it doesn't kick in until the summer though. Not sure if that's the case but the clause exists.

Balague said it doesn't. I'm not saying he's 100% but when the club says there is one I'll believe it.

The idea that Torres is worried about his status with a new striker makes more sense than any of this whole episode. The timing is too weird. Why stay until things got better, then leave suddenly? And to Chelsea when they've been slipping and need a bagful of players for next season? How many times have you seen these questions since it broke? And it's still a mystery.

It's too weird to draw simple conclusions from but when Kenny leads the way I'll follow.

Well apparently he wanted to go before the Suarez deal, and it just so happened that the request was handed in after without knowledge of suarez signing. According to some people on twitter anyway. But who knows? We should all know by Tuesday anyway hopefully.
