    Topic of Conversation.

It's been talked about on this forum recently and it's talked about in the pubs and clubs and on the streets.

Are Season Ticket holders better fans than the people that haven't got them?

I'm a ST holder but I don't think of myself as being better than the guy on the street that can't afford a ST.

Maybe he's out of work or has a large family to care for, but at the end of the day he can be just as passionate about the team as I am. It's the general feeling of being part of NUFC that creates the atmosphere we have in and around town. I consider myself lucky to be in a position to have a ST and get to the games and enjoy the atmosphere and company of like minded people. I travel to the away games with people like myself that I've got to know well from using the same travel company and enjoying a good chat over a cup of coffee and a snack at the service station stops. That's just my good fortune though and ST holders are in the minority when it comes to being fans. The man on the street be he a ST holder or not creates the buzz that goes around the town and long may it continue.

    We're all B&W and we're all UNITED.

    HTL.

Very good point, people do have other priorities as well and as an affect may not have enough money to go and watch their team. Lets face it who would put Newcastle before their friends and family?

I'd say season ticket holders are among the best fans of a club (obviously they're best supporters because of the amount of money they put in), you wouldn't get a season ticket holder who wasn't passionate about the club. But then I think you get fans who have the passion, but can't get to games frequently enough (either through finances or for other reasons) to justify buying a season ticket.

I'd say that most of the time the season ticket holders will be the most passionate..but then again you will get people like the girl who sits in front of tash and just texts (<laugh>)..
then again you can't say someone isn't as good a fan if they can't afford a ST or live too far away..
    tricky one.. good question <ok>

A lot of ST holders just go because it's the thing to do, something from the Keegan days, but they don't understand the game or have the passion that the regular everyday guy has. You don't see them jumping up and punching the air when we score or shouting encouragement at the top of their voice.

Fair enough, they make the numbers up and put cash into the club coffers but they're a bit like silent partners.

I think a club like Newcastle is different to say.. Chelsea or Man United
The season ticket holders there have no passion, was it the prawn sandwich brigade roy keane called them?

I dont consider myself a better fan than someone who doesnt have a season ticket, people have reasons not to go and higher priorities. The only way you could judge something like this is if someone could easily afford a ticket, lived in the area and had the time to go to games but chose not to.

    Good thread AB.

Whilst I believe every fan/supporter(whatever you want to call it) would go to every game if they could, some people can't. However, I do believe that people like me and you AB make risks that other supporters wouldn't, like going to Chelsea on a Wednesday night, Plymouth on a Monday night, horrible trips that some people say they can't be bothered to do. I do believe there are better fans than others in terms of how much is put into the club and how much of their spare time is spent going to the matches, passion is all the same for every fan, but there are risks that I am willing to take to see a game that other people wouldn't even consider.

Yes I know Badger, you give up quite a bit to get to every game and it can't be easy leaving CS behind, at least I don't have to do anything like that.

I can agree with this to extent.

But I think there are a lot of people that would go to every away game if money wasn't an issue. I had a season ticket for 5 seasons but couldn't afford to this year due to paycut and loss of hours. And have had to cut down on away games as well.

But if I could afford it I would go to every away and home game

Of course you have people who have a more laxidisical attitude towards it (might not take a long away trip if the game is on tele for eg).

I wish I had both time and money for a season tickey but i try to go to games when i can. Last season went to most midweek matches, this season not gone to one due to work and money but listen and watch every single one

I've duplicated this thread and removed all the ****e from it. I had to delete 110 comments out of 123, would've been easier if I'd just selected all of them and then deselected the good ones.

I don't think that ST holders are necessarily more passionate, I think that it depends on an individuals circumstances. For example, I live in Bournemouth and have a young family. Coming up to Newcastle every other weekend is not possible or affordable. We tend to go to more away games than home. We get to 2-3 home games a year and maybe 5-6 away games, which still costs a lot of money for myself and my sons.
When we lose I feel just as gutted as any ST holder and when we win I feel the same elation. In fact I would say that going to games is a really big event for us and something that we all look forward to for weeks beforehand.
In an ideal world we would be ST holders, but circumstances just don't allow it.

    edit
I should add that when we come up to a home match and we lose, the 7 hour drive home is a ****ing nightmare!!
When we have won, it's a lovely journey

Funny it takes me less than 6 hours to get up there, but is always an hour longer coming home.
