I wanted to do Heroes but chrispa76 has got that pretty much sorted with his 'nice guys' thread. The brief is to pick one F1 personality per post, past or present, give a brief description, and rate him (or her) from zero to ten according to the criteria outlined in the example below (or choose your own categories). As always, stick to the House Rules, respect other people's opinions, and try to keep it fun. For Balestre I've decided: Evil Genius (4): achieving the FIA presidency counts for something but being outflanked by Ecclestone and Enzo Ferrari into relinquishing the commercial rights to F1 impacts his score. Bullying (5): a high score for effort is compromised by being beaten whenever it came to a vote. Dangerousness (2): very low due to embarrassingly high profile innovations like introducing crash testing. Betrayal (3): some uncertainty over his Legion d'Honneur but, ultimately, he didn't do it, apparently. Honest. Cheating (9): swapping grid positions and arbitrarily disqualifying people or stopping races early probably contributed to his services to France. Deviance (8): funny how this allegation keeps cropping up for FIA presidents. Petulance (5): relatively run-of-the-mill childishness.

Bullying (8): Smaller teams fear the Toad, as his mantra is "Join or Die". L is impressed by his lack of Morals Dangerousness (5): He's head of the FIA, which means he has to approve certain safety measures. This makes him less dangerous, though sending the whole F1 circus to Bahrain was hardly the best judgement call. Also seen sneaking into opponent garages with his Ray gun, causing numerous mechanical failings, but failed in 2006, when disorientated he aimed his ray gun at his German sidekicks car in japan. Betrayal (8) He's involved in politics, betrayal is his middle name. Just ask the teams who assumed a budget cap would be in operation. Deviance (7): Uses his influence to help those who need no helping Petulance (3): Being french, some petulance in expected, but it's more surly sulking than Vettel whingeing.
Of course not - that's the point, Nazara. You can do whoever you want, Kyle. No harm in giving us a different take on Whitmarsh. It doesn't have to be limited to F1 boss men, either. Drivers are fair game, as are mechanics and engineers.

From Spygate and Liegate to It's-cos-I-is-black-gate, never one to shirk the prime responsibility of an F1 driver to create controversy, Jammy Namby Pambleton coruscates his way through the field and rivals' sidepods hotter than a quick knife though easy butter. Still, he got stuck in against his team mate in 2007 and manipulated the team manager into a tricky situation. How he plays his contract negotiations in 2012 could improve his score. Bullying (4) - plenty of on-track bullying, but we all like a bit of that; his treatment of team mates is more socially inept than spiteful although he patronises his mechanics admirably. Dangerousness (8) - scores highly both in the Michael Jackson sense of the word and his kamikaze banzai manoeuvres. His new-found faith in consistency may prevent him reaching the top of the class in this regard. Betrayal (5) - Dave Ryan gave him full marks in this category but generally Hamilton's a bit of a bad egg at being a bad egg. Average at best. Cheating (8) - an impressive score in this category is the result of being the first and only driver ever to lie to stewards and he even went on to play the race card after a hard race. Unfortunately, we know he was only joking so we can't give him full marks. Deviance (1) - woefully inadequate tastes have led to a relatively mundane venture involving just one partner, disappointingly attractive and of the opposite sex, with nary a whip nor a uniform in sight. F. Petulance (6) - from "frickin' ridiculous" to "we'll find out who made the call" and the ever-popular "is it cos I is black?" this kid knows how to spit his dummy for medial effect.
