To be honest Wiz those are mostly failed managers. Out of that list I would take Dave Jones or Curbs or Martin O Neal. All the rest are dodgy. Benitez may have contacts, but if he can't manage Liverpool with all their resources ( look how much money he spent) he could bankrupt us before we even managed to land in L1.

That's the twist in the tail that most chairmen have to make, that most applicants are failed managers but at some time in their tried and tested careers they were successful (although not in our case, totally inexperienced)..

One shining example on the list is Alan Curbishley look what he did for Charlton then went to West Ham and got sold short,I wonder if he could lift us....

The only ones on that entire list I would take are Martin O'Neill and maybe Tisdale as a cheap option! Not even Alan Curbishley anymore, he needs to go back to League 1 if he EVER takes a managerial position again. He has been out of Football for far too long to get a decent job and do anything worth while in my opinion. Certainly don't think he has any tactical nouse which is going to drastically change anyones fortunes!

You forgot Gordon Strachan on that list hahahahahahahhahahhhahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha Gordon Strachan hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

What's Steve Coppell doing these days, he might be up for it.... Too soon to make jokes about it still?

In all seriousness would you consider Dave Penney ? I thought he was put in a no win situation at Rovers
and let down tremendously by the players following Trollope's dismissal. He brought in some good players
and had a record at Doncaster similar to GJ's at Yeovil.
He'd have a point to prove to the Bristol public !!
I'm actually wary of posting this, but I think he will come back at some club and
do a bluddy good job !

most of those managers would want too much money.

Hughes would be good given what he did for wales and blackburn.

With the right assistant Zola would be my choice but think they all have their pros and cons

49nr that is a fair question...Now imagine you are a chairman with a shortlist, you've got....

    Dave Jones,Billy Davies,Dave Penney,Alan Curbishley,Mark Hughs,Paul Tisdale or Avram Grant...

No club loyalties mentioned,I've been careful on my shortlist, who would you choose..(you are allowed 2 because you're a "gashead"...just fun)....?

Hahahaha I don't want Dave Penney! I'd rather leave my wife in charge and she knows about as much about Football as a Man Utd fan. I asked her earlier what she thought of Basso re-visiting the gate and she said "oooo bad isn't it (pretending she even knew who he was)" ... I almost bodyslammed her through the coffee table!.... Thats how much I don't really want Dave Penney, Buckle however, maybe!

Right wize......I'm not poking fun but remember you're Bristol City. No recent record of success at the highest level.
Supposedly you have to sell to buy, proposals for a new stadium are stalling, and your ex-chairman is keeping
remarkably silent and his pockets buttoned up. Your attendances are low by Championship standards, and your fans notoriously fickle.
Most of the people you mention are waiting for a lower Premier vacancy to come along, or are quite happy to wait awhile.
Men like O'Neil and Hughes would need a huge inducement.
Tisdale has the City connections, but that can cut either way. Davies seems to always blow it along the way.
Lennie Lawrence is a one-off but a set up like the one with Trollope might be the way.
There's always Bobby Gould !

Oh, to answer your question.............Grant or Tisdale.

My,my that is just the answer I didn't expect from you, still "Your attendances are low by Championship standards, and your fans notoriously fickle." have you seen the revolution going on at your place, including the reported booing on saturday....

Bobby Gould,I wouldn't want that prat even commentating at our place..:emoticon-0146-punch..

My choices would be Alan Curbishley or Paul Tisdale....

Curbishley and Martin O'Neill are head and shoulders above the rest for me but I don't think we or anyone else will get the former as he doesn't appear interested in club management. We wouldn't bank roll M O'N or any of the other big names like Benitez or Grant either.

So from the remainder of realistics, I'd say Southgate would be my choice. Young, well connected and respected within the game and did more than Ok at Boro with no money for me.

my 1st choice would be Zola, very passionate, got a few links, and hes a big name like someone said, if he had a good assistant with him it could get us into the premiership

2nd Dave Jones, We know what he can do at this level and if he didn't have so many bottles in his Cardiff side he would be in the prem now

3rd choice Gareth Southgate, wrongly sacked at boro, they were in the play offs and playing very well, they got rid of him and struggled since untill this season

the 3 choice's ive selected are the most likely, i mean rafa???? O'Neil??? Hughes???? these can all go into the prem soooo easily

It's true that we're not exactly big fish in the Championship but there are a lot of plus points - nice place to live, great potential and a wealthy backer. Let's not sell ourselves short here - Swindle lined up DiCanio and they are a much smaller club in a lower league.

I like the sound of Zola or Southgate - I think the latter could be a good long term play as he is young and has a lot of respect. Plus hopefully he knows the attributes that a good defender needs, something that we are somewhat struggling with right now.

Thats a word that we fail to use a lot on our boards...

    Potential

Lets not forget, Bristol is one of the biggest if not the biggest City not to have a premiership club.

Together with the fact we are (correct me if im wrong) the 7th biggest City in the UK and there is not a premiership club in the South West at the moment we should be able to attract a pretty decent manager.

The problem we have, is our past, or lack of it, we have not had anyone come in with serious enough ambition to say to our chairman, give me £30 or £40 million and i will get you in the premier league.

Thats what we need here, after all, the price for getting in the Premiership (again correct me if im wrong) is £40 million?

If in your last sentence you actually meant REWARD for getting there not price, then the amount is nearly £90M when the guaranteed parachute payments are included. <ok>
