Nadia Comaneci was the first to get a perfect 10 ... Nellie was the second ... same Olympic games ... I was 16 (she was 18) ... I was rather taken with Nellie
I actually did gymnastics mate ... was doing a BED at Uni - was going to be a PE teacher 'till I ****ed my knee up at footie ... gymnastics was one of the modules ... you'd have loved my class mate ... 4 lads and 26 birds ... all fit and gymnasticky ... you wouldn't gave needed to wash your balls before going to the mosque mate ... they'd have been so empty you could have got away with a quick wet wipe
That first pic I posted was the girl I met in the first year at Uni ... went out with her for 5 years. She wasn't with the PE lot - pure bonus ... had my knee op at 19 ... was done by the then Olympic surgeon, John Williams, down at Wexham Park hospital in Slough - only time I came that far South other than for footie, following Leicester. Wasn't sure whether I'd fully recover so switched to a BA as I had to start the year again. Did recover and went on to play footie until I was forty - but never became a teacher... you gotta swing with the blows and look to come out stronger - been that way all my life tbf
Rename it top ten female gymnasts @Sweats. and have done with it. Beth Tweddle anyone? No, rough as **** obvs.
On your first point, I’ve thought that loads of times. I mean, how the **** do you find out you’re good at the pole vault! Here buddy, run real fast with that stick, ram it in that dip in the floor and you’ll go proper high over them rugby posts. Oh yeah mate. Sounds great. I’ll just finish my cig and give it a go. Like ****!
Boris Becker Bryan Robson Muhammed Ali Maradona Waqar Younis Sacchin Tendulkar Jimmy White Not really listing heroes but definitely most of those made me pick up a racket or grab a ball and play with my mates on the street or park where you could grab a court for the afternoon and as much Calypso as you fancied from the tuck shop.
Yeh definitely. I love the unorthodox or naturally talented. They always had a personality and fire about them. Saw Younis a few times about 8 years apart, many by luck more than anything and he was just a monster with the reverse swing or that "corridor of uncertainty". Tendulkar was just raw talent. Never got to see him live but he's the best in my lifetime. Looking back though what makes me laugh is four lads in fila wristbands diving about on tarmac trying to win a point like Becker
