Ignoring the fact we have a couple of weeks left to get people in, I wanted to see who people think we will rely on this season and who will get the most goals. Starting off with Shane Long. Big fan of his and how he chases down everything (even if he does then walk back and end up offside) Great end to the season and will be nice if he can grab another 10 goals this season. (10 goals) Jay Rodriguez Since the injury we have not seen much of Jay but his goals in the friendlies and u23 games shows he still knows where to put the ball. Dont think he will get many but can see a fair amount of assists. (5 goals) Charlie Austin Ongoing debates on if he will fit our system. Despite this I am a big fan. Wanted him for a long time, delighted we got him so cheaply and over the moon when he got us the winner against Man U. Think he may be on the bench for the first few games but reckon we might see him push himself into the team and become a regular. Going for him to be our top scorer (15 goals) Nathan Redmond Happy with this transfer, looks very promising and nice to have someone who is happy to drill it low and hard. Also be good to see how Puel plays him and if we see him up top with Long rather then on the wing. (10 Goals) Tadic Our superstar of assists and trickery. Frustrating when he has clearly fooled a player twice and goes back to make a mockery of him again only to lose the ball but important player all the same. Be happy if he keeps the assists coming but cant see it being many goals. (8) Now you have seen me rattle on, feel free to vote on who you reckon will be our top scorer, how many and why.
Went for Long, but could see Austin scoring some very important goals for us if he gets his eye in. I think we may see a few one nil wins this season as I think we will be hard to score against without being free scoring ourselves.
Redmond is talented, but is the first new signing ever that I am wary about. Little bit full of himself...may need a calming influence to integrate him into the team. Let's hope his new BFF JWP does that, rather than him turn our little James into a maverick.
It would appear that Puel rates him highly. He had looked good in pre season and I think he will be given a big role in the team this season. Yes he does come across a little cocky, but who cares if he delivers?
True...as long as he doesn't become disruptive. I don't mean in a bad behaviour way, but more playing for himself rather than the team. My female spider senses are on the alert. I'm watching you, Nathan.
The fact that he's JWP's bezzie makes me feel okay about him - I can't imagine a sensible young lad like JWP buddying up with someone who's ultimately an arse.
To be honest I do not have a clue. I might have a better idea once I have seen us play a few competitive matches.
Heh, I don't think we'll be seeing that many goals from the five of them...if we did, we'd be putting up a goals total as a team that'd easily threaten for the highest-scoring in the league. League goals guesses: Long - 11 Jay - 2 Austin - 6 Redmond - 6 Tadic - 8 Long or the mysterious other as our leading scorer.
I went for Long, but the page refreshed just as I was tapping the screen so accidentally clicked on Redmond (damn this clunky hotel WiFi) but have changed it back to Long as I think he is going to be a big player for us this season and will finally silence any doubters. That's a good selection of names to choose from though and think that between them they will contribute plenty of goals. I wasn't sure about Redmond when we bought him, but I think I was being unfair as I hadn't really seen much of him and think he will give Shane a run for his money. Plus I hope Charlie scores a bucket load just so that we can really rub it in to other teams when we use his transfer fee as a unit of currency - talking of which, if we break our transfer record, that'll still only be 4 Charlies which is pretty low considering the fees some teams are paying this season
Careful though, some of you might remember the first home game in 2014 v WBA. It was notable because Pelle made his (home?) debut and gave the worst performance I have ever seen live from a professional footballer for a team I was supporting. A week later he just scored an open goal at West Ham (Morgan scored twice even though he was on strike) and ended up top scorer.
