    Afternoon Geordies,

    Do you guys think if the Carroll money is invested wisely and with players like Enrique, Barton and Ranger you guys could be up there challenging for the top four next season?

    Be nice to see one of City, Chelsea, Arsenal or United miss out. Best of luck with it!

    Who do you support? I get them impression you just dont watch us much or this is a poor attempt at WUMming. We'd do extremely well to get 7th next season, top 4 is unthinkable for about 10 years, absolute minimum.

    I have a terrible illness caused by setting unattainable demands which causes high blood pressure when they aren't met and I end up spitting blood.

    Could be worse.

    I could have been a mackem.

    Finish above Newcastle or I'll spit blood. I'd have died aged 6 months...

    Top 4? We're winning the league aren't we? And the Champions League (due to us being entered via the Awesome Play rule), and the SPL with our reserves, and the World Cup which isn't even happening next year. How pessimistic are you lot?

    To reach anywhere near the top 4 it would take some luck. Over the next 5 years we would have to uncover a fair few more real gems like Tiote. We'd then have to take the revenue from higher positions and better tournament results to invest in players around the £10-£20mill mark.

    Bloody difficult to do. Mind, some of the top teams have uncovered some real phenomenal players for affordable prices, so they are out there.

    Fabregas - free (academy signing)
    Van Persie - £2.75mill
    Samir Nasri - £12mill
    Wilshere - Free (academy)
    Malouda - £13mill
    Anelka - £15mill
    Cole - £5mill + Gallas
    Ivanovic - £9mill
    Sturridge - £3.5mill
    Van Der Sar - £2mill
    Evra - £5.5mill
    Park Ji-Sung - £4mill
    Vidic - £7mill

    They're all regular top 4 team players (Sturridge will be soon I reckon), and they all cost fees which are within our range, so they can be found if you look in the right places.
