Liverpool winning their last game against Swansea on Sunday is going to give Liverpool 55 points. Championship winner this season is likely to win with 89 points. Current position: 1.Manchester City 86 points 2.Manchester United 86 points 3.Arsenal 70 points 4.Tottenham 66 poinst. . . . . . 8. Liverpool 52 points plus 3 points maximum=55~34 poinst below the champion Tottenham winning their last game is going to give them 69 points#Liverpool 14 points below Tottenham. All other clubs are going to strenghten, I believe Liverpool are going to strenghten too.Top four finish is going to be harder next season.
We hear this every season and it just dosent happen. Yes they will buy other players but does that guarantee them being a better team? The fact is I believe that even with our current squad we will be a much more effective team next season and that we will be capable of finishing 4th. This might change after all all the comings and goings everywhere but that is where we are now.
Question: Have our performances deserved 15 points more.....Should we have won many more games than we have based on performances/chances created/woodwork hit? I agree that we need to strengthen but even with Lucas/Gerrard/Agger/Suarez out for chunks of the season, we were still playing top 4 football imo, clearly without the top 4 finishing required. We are not that far away though. YNWA
Rumours say we have to sign cheap and on a free.. I say if we add Hoilett and Dempsey (both free) Then look to buy before the euros to avoid the inflation. I dont think Podolski is going to be all that his not at a top german club for a reason, Newcastle will surely be a one season wonder.. And i dont belive spurs have the money too invest.. Fourth is achieveable if we just turn our home form. DR.
Dont under estimate Newcastle. Ba, Cisse and Ben Arfa are a solid front three capable of goals galore. Cabaye, Collocini, Tiote and Krul are decent players to. They have a decent team and Pardew is doing good for them. If Tottenham loose Modric and Bale, they could slide. For us, our keeper, defence and defencive md are as good as any in the top four, and better than some. Gerrard, Suarez and Carroll in attack are strong and are linking up well. We just need to bridge the gaps.
Ba has a 6million buyout clause and think I will almost certainly come to us, Chelsea or Spurs. Chelsea are apparently interested in Tiote and I don't see them keeping Cabaye. A lot will depend on if they manage to secure CL qualification I think. Still, though I think next season we'll hopefully perform better than this year and get a higher points total, I really can't see the team gelling enough to finish in the top four. Just one month ago we'd lost 8 out of our last 10 or something remember.
To be fair, this season has been one of the easiest for a while to do well...Unfortunately we have been about as good in front of goal as Eunuch is at sealing the deal........... Luckily we are playing good football and with appropriate additions over the summer we should be in as gooda posiotn as most to compete for the top 4. (Still think City and United) will be clear. Chelsea are going to buy and that will mean ther may be a gelling period, especially if they have some hard games early season. really think Modric will leave Tottenham, given their poor end to the season. thi scould almost be guaranteed if Chelsea do win the Champions league and stop tottenham making the Champions league. Arsenal will definately improve, (so long as they keep RVP.) Wilshire coming back and other sensible signings will keep them up there. For me i think it will be a fight for top 4, but we will certainl ybe able to compete with the other teams competing for the top 4...... Clinical consistancy is what we need boys....clinical consistancy
Our home record; Drew 9 Lost 4 If we drew only 4=5x2=10 points If we lost only 1 =3x3= 09 points Our current points =52 plus 19.It is going to be 72 points.Above Arsenal OUR PROMLEM IS AT HOME.
It is highly unlikely Newcastle will either manage to keep hold of all their top players or buy enough squad depth to compete in 3 cup competitions and the league. Newcastle will drop back to 6-10th next season.
They will invest in more players. In attack they have depth with Marveaux, Guitierez, 2 Ameobie's, Obertan and best, with Nile Ranger and Xisco also returning from loans Guthrie, Loverncrands and Gosling in midfield.
this year the league was awful really. two sides up to snuff and the rest pretty dire. 66 points ofr 4th is pathetic really. I think we need many reinforcements and to stop playing within ourselves, stop playing with fear. v cheslea there was nothing onthe line and players were positive. we won handily. not saying we could win if something was actually o nthe line but the negative play in the final only ended when the thing was lost. then we hammered into them. Attitude needs to change, fear must be eliminated. the firs tpass must be forward not backwards.
Totally agree. The annoying thing is that bar a couple of games, we've dominated just about all but failed to win many. Many home results should of mirrored the recent Chelsea result imo.....alas, thye didn't and we are were we are.
IMO a top 4 finish will require a number of changes from our performances this year in all areas: 1. A quality addition up front and at least two decent wide players must be our main priority. Suarez is hot headed, to say the least and with the reputation garnered this season (some unjustly but plenty through his own foolishness) it's a given that he'll spend a few games out through suspension next year unless he focuses more on his game. Carroll is now showing glimpses of form but as a young lad he'll still have spells of good and bad form. Kuyt and Maxi could be departing (although I'd love both to stay for another year) so we really will have even less creativity from wide areas unless we buy and buy well. Downing has been a major disappointment so far, Henderson is not and never will be a wide midfielder good enough to play at the top level, Bellamy is great on his day but I still don't see that out wide is his best position anyway, Sterling may or may not get more games next year but unlikely he'll be ready to play a major part yet. 2. Midfield will hopefully look a lot stronger with the return of Lucas but we really do need Gerrard to find his mojo again for long spells of next year if we are to challenge top four. Hopefully if we can keep these two fit and utilise ChAdam, Henderson and Spearing (more sparingly than this year) then we have a fairly strong central midfield unit. Possibility of one bit of quality required but certainly not major surgery required...yet. 3. Defensively I think we are a good unit now, Coates continuing to develop would be a massive bonus to us in terms of compensating for the ageing legs of JC. Getting a full season from Kelly, Johnson and Enrique would give us great cover on both sides of the back 4 especially seeing as we have a few decent young full backs at the club too. I think I share the same concerns as most Reds when it comes to Aggers injury record. Superb as he is, we will have to consider strengthening there if we fail to keep him fit for a large part of next season. Again keeping Lucas fit could be key to grabbing a few more clean sheets next season. 4. Pepe hasn't had his greatest year but seems settled enough so hopefully back to his old self soon enough, not sure we have much behind him to rely on though. Massive amounts of work needed from management in terms of tactics and quality of purchases and the first team players as well who must improve their ball retention, decision making and most of all goal scoring next season. Kenny is definitely trying to get us playing the kind of football we all want to watch but he and the club must buy and buy well this summer. Doesnt have to be a whole ruck of players but whoever comes in has to be of a good quality already and also be able to compliment/get the best out of those who've underachieved this year
There's no doubt we need to buy, but not too many imo. If we change the team too much then we'll have the same problem as this season with them taking too long to gel. Of course we could be lucky, and have four players slot seamlessly into the team, but I doubt it. Remember we were playing great football, outplaying almost everyone, but failing to find the net. Eventually a lack of confidence crept in and we declined further. We should have been top 4 this season on the balance of play, but in the end goals are the only statistic that count. I think we need to get a 25 goal plus striker as a priority, and follow that up with a right winger and creative midfielder. The team isn't a million miles from being able to compete, and we shouldn't panic too much. Kenny's task I think, is to motivate the players, we've seen how well they can do when they're up for it- too many lacklustre performances have let us down in the second half of the season.
How are you getting Dempsey on a free? His contract runs out next summer, and if he doesn't leave this transfer window I imagine he'll sign a new contract with Fulham. IMO Newcastles season will depend on who they sell in the summer, and wether or not their scout can find gems like he has to replace them, but I doubt they will be one season wonders.
I'm looking forward to next year. I cannot be as bad as this year - can it?! I think with a couple of signings we will at least see some improvement!
You are short of; GK x1 RB x1 LB x1 CB x1 DMx2 ACM x2 LM x1 LWx1 RM x1 RW x2 No.10 x1 ST x2 Carragher and Gerrard can cover a number of those positions, but obviously only 1 each at a time. So by my reckoning, in order to compete at the highest level of English Football, you need 14 Players. Citeh, Yernited & Chelski will take some shifting. For 4th place, you can get away with the odd passenger, but not too many, Spuds Squad is very strong, but no back up keeper, no real alternative to Lennon, Modric or Adebeyor, and they look like missing out. On that basis, LFC are probably 10 quality signings away from Champions League Qualification.
