I'm not sure the Laudrup factor or the use of the prefix 'St' was necessary but you knew that I guess. Top 4 is dreamland. Possible but unlikely.

I tend to agree Swan but you never know. A top 4 would meant that we not only have an almost flawless season but also 3 or 4 good sides all have below par seasons. Unlikely.

Not a chance, top 10 is still a good finish, lets not get ahead of ourselves after 4 games.

True, but as Matt says, nothing wrong with daydreaming. Every club should always aspire to better last season's result imo.

I genuinely feel we have a slight chance this year. We are easily as good as Spurs, Liverpool and possibly even Man Yooo this year - even Chelsea are floundering. Southampton aren't firing like last year either. Our first 11 are as strong as anyone's in the PL except for Chelsea, Citeh and Arsenal. Europa is a definite possibility based on league position, and there is a small possibility of nicking 4th imo.

Things are starting to even up financially, 5 years ago your squad would have been raided and you wouldn't have had any option other than to sell, but TV money is closing the gap between the haves and have nots. I think this is going to be a very interesting season and I wouldnt be surprised if 1, or even 2, teams made it to the CL who wouldn't have dreamed of it 3 or 4 seasons ago. You look strong, we (WHU) look strong and, my dark horse, Crystal Palace look strong, I would say CPFC have a midfield only bettered by Citeh.
It's starting to become about the manager again, of the usual top 4 suspects Utd look so weak they have to resort to hoofing to Felleini most of the time, and I have never rated VDG. Liverpool, well, nuff said, we totally destroyed them at Anfield and they have been given 4 or 6 points by poor refereeing. Chelsea look terrible, especially at the back which has always been the reason they've won the league. Arsenal can still be bullied and look impotent up front, with Wenger as blind to his sides failings as he is to his players on field conduct. Only City look good.
I really want to see a 'smaller' club in the CL. Whether it's Swansea, West Ham, Southampton, Crystal Palace, just like last season I don't really care which one it is.
Then, of course, we have next season, and the TV money will bring us all even closer to financial parity.

Good post. I agree it would be good for the Prem to mix things up.

It's possible but we really need a bigger stadium to make it a reality....

I'm not so sure that's true now, of course it wouldn't hurt to have a 100,000 seat stadium that gets sold out week in week out, and global appeal, but with the new TV deal it's no longer the be all and end all. We are seeing a return to the days when smaller well run clubs with a good managerial fit can upset the apple cart, it might not happen this year, but soon it will.
Swansea with Monk, Palace with Pardew, Southampton and Koeman, (not sure about Bilic yet, Arsenal and Liverpool away, v Leicester and Bournemouth at home.) Keeping the best players in the squad together will be easier, and that revenue advantage will become smaller. QPR earned more prize money last season that Man Utd did when they won the title in 2012, and this new deal is double.

players would look at attendance for home games and most would choose playing in front of 35k than 20+k, Ours is far too small today and could do with another 15k extra seats easily....It does make a difference at this level as Arsenal,Chelsea and man city will testify as all have extended or built bigger grounds....

Players look at their pay packet, and the point Big Ern is correctly making is that because of the way football finances are set up you don't actually need a huge stadium because bums on seats are a much smaller part of the big picture these days.

You can say you disagree as much as you like but this isn't an opinion you can actually disagree with. TV money dwarfs stadium income and the gap is widening. FACT. The opinion part is that this will level the playing field to a degree as Big Ern stated.

    Or is it 'dwarves'? Hmm....:emoticon-0114-dull:

If I'm correct stadium revenue only makes up 10% of a clubs yearly revenue. I'll be happy with another top 10 finish, however I think 6-7th is very possible this season. 6th will always be our best scenario as we would need heavyweight financial muscle to break the top 4/5 death grip on the league.

Its good to have aspirations but has been said above realistically we will do well to consolidate in the top 10 and if we got 8th we have done really well and if we got 6th then whoa we have had a cracker of a season

    http://grammarist.com/usage/dwarfs-dwarves/

When used as a verb it seems to be dwarfs. And it is a fact.
