Most on here will know I'm usually optimistic about City, so sorry for the negative post, but today proved without doubt that as a team we have no teeth. Against 10 men we barely bothered their goal and that was after playing all of our attacking players during the game. No one doubts that NB has the team playing great passing football but with the exception of Koren I don't think we have a forward player that seriously worries the managers of the decent teams.
After watching the game on via a stream, it gave me a different perspective. The central striker in our formation really needs to be very direct but Fryatt always goes backwards. I would argue that it is our biggest problem. But, there were positives, Stewart played well and began to take on Peltier down the line instead of cutting inside all the time. I love King, very direct, powerful & pacey. Sign up a striker!
There aren't many players you could single out to say they are the weak link. The only one doing my head in at the moment is Dawson and he's hardly responsible for our lack of attacking threat. It just doesn't work for some reason.
38 goals in as many games isn't good enough for promotion, hopefully we can address our weaknesses in the close season and come back stronger next season.
Trying to stay optimistic, still only 2 points behind and a game in hand. Listening to Nick I am glad he says he is annoyed with the players and it wasn't good enough. Listening to the interview with Fryatt reading between the lines I don't think he is happy with the formation and the position he is put in. Hoping they all can sit down and have a really good open discussion about what is going wrong and Barmby will take other ideas on board so we can come out fighting on Tuesday night. A win on Tuesday and another on Saturday will turn things round. HOPEFULLY.
I dont think playing 1 up top is working, its too easy for the opposition to double up on the lone striker and snuff out any danger. We're not Barca, we should stop trying to play like that. Manonne Rosenior Chester Hobbs Dawson Brady McKenna Evans Stewart King McLean Fryatt need someone to play off and we just dont have that at the moment.
With Koren out it should be Fryatt and King up front with Stewart and Brady on the right and left respectively. Let King and the wingers bet behind the defence and square balls in to Fryatt to poach in from his preferred natural position. If our best players out injured the team can't be built around him so lets build it around our second best player.
Teams who can't score goals usually end up in the relegation zone, I think we are lucky to be where we are. Pessimistic it may be but if Nick thinks the strikers are good enough are we sure we'll be ok for the rest of the season or are the play-offs just a dream?
Agree! Burnsy kept saying "patient build-up/passing", but there was nothing at the end of it! Also - he and Swanny remarked on how you wouldn't know the Foxes were down to ten men...
Fryatt played very deep, Josh King looked a decent player for you, Cameron Stewart was a threat but didnt come to much. Mannone should of saved Dyer's goal You look decent in areas but as mentioned you not very good in and around the box.
I dont think its any easier playing against 10 men, you generally still have 2 banks of 4 to break through, and thats what we're poor at. Breaking the opposition down!
Watched the game on the thai stream - we had most of the possession but no cutting edge. Cam Stewart never got a telling cross in and our main threat was Josh King. Fryatt is having to feed off scraps and after they had Danns sent off Pearon put everyone behind the ball and we never looked like scoring particularly once King went off. Still only two points off the playoffs with a game in hand but our momentum has stalled. Nick needs to find a new approach otherwise particularly now Robbie Koren is out for three weeks otherwise we are just gonna drift along in the final 8 games when there is so much to play for - oh for a Jason Roberts typr of player to help Matty Fryatt.
you have no more chance of promotiom than us but do you really want to scrape into the prem and make your first target to beat derbys all time low points score? we will meet again next season in a competitive league where really virtually every team has a chance---if only the officials were as good as the teams because we have had some ****e refs and linos this season and todays ref wasnt even giving a free kick when danns won the ball today but hulls "professionals" surrounded and harrased this weak man until he got the red card out-----shame on them and I wish cruciate ligament injuries on them all
massive lack of urgency is the problem, im all for patience but passing it along the backline, then to mckenna, then back along the back line in the 90th minute when a goal down is a joke. fair enough for sticking to principles, but theres a time and a place, sometimes youve got to stick a centre back up there and lump it in, we are not barcelona and he is not guardiola, sometimes you just have to play like a championship team!
probably best not too, as im very angry and would probably go too far, like blaming dawson for the whole defeat, despite me usually sticking up for him. everybody knows dyer is left footed and you keep him on the right, all except dawson of course, the 2nd goal came on the momentum!
at the game i thought it was harsh, just caught it on sky sports news, he was about 4 foot off the floor when he flew in..clear red!
