SAFC fan gets shirty with Magpie mate
Newcastle supporter Andy White, right, in a Sunderland football shirt after losing his bet with his work colleague and Black Cats supporter Josh Dyer that Newcastle would finish higher in the league table.

THIS is the moment a devout Newcastle United fan suffered his worst nightmare – having to wear the red and white of Sunderland after losing a season-long bet.

Andy White is pictured at the Stadium of Light club shop, where the 22-year-old paid his debt to workmate and Black Cats fan Josh Dyer.

The pair had agreed that whoever’s team finished lower in the Premier League, he would have to go and buy his rival’s strip from the ground.

However, as full-time approached on Sunday, Josh, from Town End Farm, was the most worried of the pair, who are both data analysts at Npower, on Rainton Bridge Business Park.

With the Magpies beating West Bromwich Albion at St James’ Park and a point ahead of Sunderland, who themselves were comfortably beating West Ham in London, he was preparing for embarrassment.

But then Albion’s Cameroon international Somen Tchoyi bagged a hat-trick to pull his side level.

With Newcastle gaining only a point, Steve Bruce’s side leapfrogged them to end up in 10th place and be North East top dogs.

A relieved Josh, 21, said: “We made the bet at the start of the season.

“Andy was texting me non-stop on Sunday when they were 3-0 up.

“But then he texted me on 87 minutes (when Albion made it 3-3) saying ‘the bet is off now’.”

But Andy kept true to his word and visited the Stadium of Light club shop to fork out his hard-earned cash for the shirt.

Despite being closely placed in the league his confidence of winning the wager was boosted by Newcastle’s 5-1 win over Sunderland in October.

The reverse fixture at the Stadium of Light ended in a 1-1 draw.

Andy, 22, of Blakelaw, Newcastle, said: “I was confident at the start of the season.

“But I’ve felt sick since Sunday night knowing I had to come here.

He added: “I just snuck into work on Monday.

“I could see Josh’s eyes over the top of the computer screen all day.”

Despite the shaming, Josh and Andy say they will risk their pride again next season by pledging another bet.

“We’ll definitely do it again next year and if I lose I’ll go and do it,” said a triumphant Josh.

“We’ve had so many injuries and we would have finished well above them if those injuries hadn’t come about.”

    Funny as ****!

He had to pay for the shirt with his own money!?

I would have rather stabbed myself to death with a ball point pen then fund the mackems and wear their shirt!
