I’ve been thinking about the reason that so many players get non contact injuries. It’s not just at our club it’s across the board.

in order to stop this the authorities have allowed more sub’s. Is this actually making matters worse.

It’s counter intuitive I know, but maybe not as daft as it sounds. It works in more ways than one. A player that knows he’s only going to be on for say an hour, can run harder for instance as he’s not having to pace himself over 90 mins. Also bringing subs on requires more from players that stay on for the full 90 mins as they are having to compete against players that may only be on the pitch for 15 or 20 minutes.

If subs were only allowed for injuries and limit it to say one per team both sets of players would tire naturally and would competing with players who’d all played the same number of minutes. Or am I overthinking it ?

Yep a tad over thinking IMO, it might be a theory, but more often than not, it seems subs are made for tactical reasons more than because the player tires.. quite often 2 or 3 changes are made.......of course fresh legs should make a difference, creating hopefully an injection to the task
