It seems that our beloved £35m is still being spent wisely. the red 'gravel' around the side of the pitch in st james park is being replaced with concrete. Although, as a steward, it is annoying walking home like you've walked through a red snow storm, this now means you cant scatter the ashes of your loved ones at St James Park...

Well played, Mike Ashley. I hope you have restless sleeps from the spirits of those you are concreting over.

I may not be able to scatter my ashes, but I can scatter everything else by jumping from the roof, try and stop me you fat cockney bastard.

Am I missing something? What's the difference between gravel and concrete as an ash scattering medium? The very point of scattering ashes is that they eventually scatter into the wind, he's concreting over nothing! If he comes out and says he's doing it to desecrate the dead then I'll join in your indignation, but for now, really?

This. It's not as if the bodies of the dead are buried around the pitch under the gravel either. I'd be shocked if anyone even thought of the concrete affecting ash scattering when making the decision

EDIT: I see in later posts from people that they have noted ash spreading in press releases, my bad.

    Are you kidding?

You're actually blaming Ashley for the decision to "Tarmac" not concrete (not that it really matters but makes the point factually correct) over the old cinder path perimeter of the pitch!?

You got your information from the official website which gives the technical reasons behind the decision and also apologises that future ash laying will not be permitted!

You lot are unbelievable talk about grasping at straws ... I sincerely hope that this isn't the mindset of the immature morons who brought shame on the club at Darlo, I was there and there's absolutely no talking to them!

Get behind the team and forget about the regime!!

"We're fully aware of the issue of spreading ashes around the pitch and would wish to fully respect those ashes that are already there and have been for a number of years.
"In laying the tarmac we feel we are 'sealing in' the ashes that are already there to protect them for eternity and people will still be able to lay flowers on anniversaries if they so wish.

This. The Ashley hatred is getting well beyond a joke if you are resorting to this sort of crap. FFS get a life and get some perspective.

In other news, we're considering relaying the pitch.

"What! The very pitch that Alan Shearer fought and died on! Sick bastards!"

To the people saying the ashes blow away anyway, they don't. I remember when I went on a tour, we were walking on the red gravel and afterwards the guide pointed out the grey stuff on the gravel was actually ashes but didn't tell us at first so we didn't freak out.

They don't stay forever. Outside in wind, rain, snow, its not staying in clumps on the gravel forever.

Haven't done the tour in years, the guy who did will probably be either retired or have his Ashes spread at the ground.

Yeah but there is a difference between spreading it in gravel and just hoying it on to tarmac.

This! The hatred for Ashley does get taken way too far. I cant really see it being Ashleys fault that they're concreting the side of the ground. The whole point of spreading Ashes has already been pointed aswell. Its not as if all that sand was just peoples ashes either.

I think dead people should boycott St James' Park out of protest.
