Someone from Southampton has attempted to avoid taking part in the judicial system by claiming that he's just too hateful.
He believes that he's too prejudiced against gays, blacks and foreigners (his words) to be impartial and asked to be excused.
They're now looking to prosecute him for contempt of court.

I don't agree with him, but I'm not sure what he's done wrong, assuming that he's being honest about his views.
If he admits that he'd go into a lot of cases with a pre-formed opinion of those involved, then he shouldn't be on a jury.

Was he right and which one of you is he?

I don't understand how it's contempt of court - in actual fact he'd be committing contempt of court if he swears an oath to be impartial and base his decisions on facts.

I suppose they couldn't really let him off though as noone would ever bother agreeing to do jury duty again!

I can cheat the lie detector test. It's all based on your heart rate and persperation on your finger tips. I am an extremly calm individual and I can also make my hands sweat just by thinking about it.

Years ago I got called for jury duty and told them that I had no respect for the police and that i'd probably find the defendant not guilty even if the evidence suggested he was, because I'd think the police just made it up. I got excused jury duty. LOL.

<laugh> I did it twice and on one of them a couple of people were defintiely making their minds up based on the defendant's colour - positive and negative. Blatant doesn't even begin to describe it. I wouldn't have been surprised if there had been a fight at one stage.......
