QPR chairman Tony Fernandes has been a busy boy today and he’s now released this mini-statement on Twitter, highlighting what is required from the new manager. He said: “We the board will hire someone who cares, thinks long term, wants to be involved in developing the academy, has coaching skills, will play young players and is a winner.
Doesn't do the speculation any good - TF sticks by Arry saying tathe's the man, Arry retires due to injury, TF states that he wants the polar opposite of Arry in to replace him. The criteria sounds like Sherwood's CV (although nobody really know's about him thinking long term) - that's just my speculation though but it seems too conveniently placed. No problems at all if it's someone that fits that criteria from some random other place (plus DEFINITELY needs to not be contemplating an autobiography as an additional condition).
Doesn't mention the state of the candidate's knees - but seriously, seems to be good criteria. I might have said "has coaching and man management skills"
Actually, he did mention coaching skills but not man management which, I agree, is an essential criteria. I recall Sherwood being a bit too forthright for some players' tastes at Spurs: when I was in business, we learned that you have to adapt your style to suit the person you are dealing with. I hope Tim , if it is to be him, has also learned that sort of flexible approach.
Stating the bleedin obvious isn't he? That's the dream of every club in the country. Hiring someone "who will develop the academy, play young players and is a winner" don't necessarily go together though.
Exactly - that's the point I was trying to make by adding words after "coaching". For example, Roy Keane would fill some of the criteria but, as we know, can be toxic in a dressing room. It may sound obvious, but if Sherwood comes in, his relationship with Joey Barton as captain, team spokesman and a highly opinionated character will be critical imo.
Yes, the criteria are not rocket science but they seem to have been overlooked in the past. By laying them out so clearly now, he can at least measure each of the candidates against them and he should use them to justify to the Board his eventual recommendation. Like SS, I wouldn't expect the new man to score maximum points under every heading but it would make it a more rigorous process. I'd rather have that than "gut feel"!
Speaking of man-management and dressing-room harmony not to mention players of 'the right sort', didn't Sandro have issues with Sherwood during his time at Spurs?
If what Spurs fans and rumours are to be believed, half of Spurs players wanted to leave by the end of sherwood time in charge. And as for his motd tirades... I really hope it's not him, but I think it's been him for some time.
Paul Clement if we can get him and **** this league if we go down rather have my club back Beard off you trot also
