QPR chairman rules out sale of out-of-favour star Matt Phillips on Twitter Queens Park Rangers are not looking to sell Matt Phillips before the end of the January transfer window. View image | gettyimages.com Queens Park Rangers chairman Tony Fernandes has taken to social media site Twitter to state that Matt Phillips will not be leaving the club this January. The Daily Mail had said that Phillips could be on the verge of an exit from Loftus Road, with Derby County amongst the clubs interested, but these reports have been quashed today. Fernandes says that Phillips remains a key part of Harry Redknapp's plans and he insists that the whole board are together in knowing what has to be done to improve the team. Matt Philips is not going anywhere. He's an important player. The board is now very clear on what needs to be done. — Tony Fernandes (@tonyfernandes) January 30, 2015 Phillips' future has been the subject of much speculation because he has seemingly been given a back-up role by Redknapp this campaign. The 23-year-old has only appeared in 12 matches and he would have been hoping to play much more of a part for the side, given his obvious talents. SEE ALSO: Report: Derby rebuffed in loan enquiries for QPR duo Phillips has proven before that he can be a threat to defences even at the top level, with his speed and trickery two of his major assets, and it is rather surprising he hasn't been given more opportunity to impress. From Fernandes' words it is clear that he is still rated highly by everyone at Loftus Road, though, and Phillips will be hoping that he receives more chances during the second half of the campaign. Should Matt Phillips be given more chance to impress at QPR?
Someone needs to work out how we get the best from him, because he's been a shadow of his former self since his injury
I think there is an alien at Loftus Road performing a very specialised experiment on wingers which involves removing the parts of the brain that control the ability to beat a player, cross the ball or shoot. He's been at it for several years now.
I know it's been said before but it's a classic case of qpr taking a player with bags of potential and turning them into ****e. For other examples see Hoilett, Mutch, arguably Traore and languid Leroy
Hope he comes good. Very much a confidence player and has slogged his guts out to get fit again. Just needs a decent chance and a bit of luck to get going IMO
Unless we change formation i.e moving Vargas up top I don't see him getting that much of a look in this season.
Why does TF feel the need to comment on this? Did he say anything about Mutch's transfer? It seems he just cherry picks a few bits just to be seen to be involved. Odd.
Everton away I think. An awful performance but then it was an away game so what you would expect. They got no service and then BBZ came on and scored
For precisely the same reasons some people seem to think Fernandes is "good at" social media, I think of him as an example of a high-profile person whose Twitter use is particularly ill-advised.
Play this today and we may have a chance: --------------------------------Green---------------------------- Onuoha-------------Caulker---------Dunne------------Yun Isla--------------------Barton--------Henry-----------Traore -----------------------------Vargas------------------------------ ---------------------------------Austin---------------------------
