Tony Mowbray - Tactically Abysmal Or Just Utter Guff?

I've just watched the Celtic game and there are several points to bring up, mostly concerning Mowbray's alarming decisions.

Not really my main crux of the article but worth a mention is how come Strachan was able to get the same team inherited at the start of the season by Mowbray to challenge (and shouldn't have really blown it last season) very strongly for last season's title yet Mowbray couldn't? I'm not one for buying into "Red Top" tittle tattle but there must've been some truth in him losing the dressing room. As said though, not really the main point of this article.

Second up is this transfer window. Most managers use the January window to fine tune / get in a bit of cover. Not Mowbray, he rips apart the side and attempts a complete rebuild halfway through the season? Absolute suicide, even in the SPL. I can't believe he ditched the main spine of your team so abruptly. Caldwell / McManus (not so much of a drama ole Mick though ), Robson (who is exactly the sort of tough-tackling, no-nonsense player you need in the SPL) and McDonald (I hated seeing him play against us or any other side as he is just like Boyd, you feed him, he scores) were players who you definitely needed in there to maintain some sort of stability through such a big transition and my feeling is that these transfers were a massive mistake.

Tonight, ffs, he (basically) goes 4-2-4 with a frontline made up of 2 brand new signings and the fairly recently used Costa! He should've used a bit of commonsense and NOT have thrown BOTH Keane and Kamara straight into what was a very important game. Keane was probably chucked in there to appease the fans no doubt but Samaras has experience of what it's like to play at places like Killie where you have to rely on a bit more than skill to get a result. It makes the selling of McDonald even more daft if you ask me. Totally naive to say the least.

Also what the **** was he playing at taking the armband off Loovens and giving it to Brown when he came on? Jesus Christ, why don't you basically say to Loovens "look mate, you're a ****e leader now **** off back to trying to defend" Diabolical man-management. Can you imagine what Loovens is thinking in the dressing room now? Confidence SEVERELY affected or at the least, his ample nose put VERY out of shape by such a decision.

Summary, Mowbray is both tactically absymal and pretty much utter guff all round. I really don't know where he goes from this game. He didn't help himself with his comments prior to this game either by saying "the gap is basically 6 points" (hinting that this game against Killie was a banker. Why didn't he just walk into the Killie dressing room and say "you are ****e and we are going to tear you a new on"? Tango & Sash wouldn't have needed to give any inspirational speech, just show the lads the vid clip of Mowbray saying that or show them the newspaper clippings. That all said, I'm still not going to count my chickens regarding the title destination but with Mowbray in charge, it's making it far, far easier for Rangers to win this year.

Celtic have had plenty of laughs at Rangers now its the Rangers turn to have the laugh at Celtic. Losing 8 points to Falkirk, Kilmarnock and Hibs the last 2 weeks has all but ended Celtics chances.

JohnBhoy - I think my original points in this article are pretty decent ones wouldn't you agree? I've not done the blatant pish take but actually pointed out glaring mistakes he's made in my opinion thus far.

****ing shocking to be honest - I mean I'm trying to be as fair as possible to Mowbray but the simple fact is he has far superior resources to a near bankrupt Rangers team yet is managing to lose to the worst team in the league. Even if I was being the most fair minded fan in the world serious questions will creep into your mind at this point.

Mick - I actually forgot to include his decision to move Brown to left back when he came on? WTF! <yikes>

**** knows, ****ing bizarre - I think I'm past the point of being shocked any more. The sad thing is I've had 350 quid at 5/6 Keano to score 11 or less goals in the SPL and now it now looks a dead on cert - and while I knew it earlier today it's somehow still managing to piss me right off despite the profit.

That's a very good bet as who knows, he might pick up an injury and spend a few weeks on the treatment table or it might just not happen for him. It'll be a close bet that one, might even come down to the last couple of games.

Still, if it comes good then at least you can take the dug to the vets and get him a new set of baws after tonight eh? <laugh>

That bet is a winner BH, he has to score 12 in the next 15 games to beat it and he's not a goal scorer. He has to beat Larsson's goal to game ratio which he simply isn't going to. I think a lot of people don't give the SPL the credit it's due including Paddy Power's odds compilers who automatically assumed a player such as Keane would score twice as many goals as he normally does simply because he moved to Scotland!?

If anything Mick, it's sometimes harder for forwards to score in Scotland as you just don't get the same space as you would in other leagues...........that coupled with the amount of hammer-throwers constantly snapping at your ankles. Yep, it's a very good bet.

I don't think he's a very good manager tbh. He's a reputation as a good manager for playing 4-4-2 & attacking teams like Man Utd, which got his West Brom team relegated!!

My first choice was Coyle a manager who proved he could grab a bargain, get youth players involved & is willing to adapt to he next game, hourses for courses & all that ****. I think he would have been far better suited to Celtic his attacking football would have pleased the fans & his ability to change the team when required could have seen us do well in Europe.

Last night just showed the midfield pairing are not the best. I know Kamara & McGeady will get forward & create the main threat so Ki & Nguemo can't bomb on too much...........but every header won/lost by Fortune & keane bounced straight to a Killie player as we had nobody like Brown with the energy & pace to get up to play behind the front 2.

The gap in the middle of the park was shocking. Killie had far too much space inbetween the front 2 & the central midfield. If I can see this why can't Mowbray or the backroom staff?

Everybodys been crying out for a cull for a while BH so the fans can't complain that its been done. Caldwell is shocking, you seen his performances for Wigan? <laugh> I do think Mowbray wanted to keep him but he obviously thought he was worth alot more than he is so was sold before he left for free in the summer. Robson may be tough but this season he's been one of the worst footballers I've ever seen. His legs have gone, too one footed & has no understanding of where a midfielder should position himself. Got money for him & off the wage bill before everybody realises how ****e he is & we're stuck with him!!

We got £3.5/4.5m based on add ons for McDonald. Not a bad price for him. Samaras should have been the guy to make way but would only fetch half of that so perhaps we sacrificed McDonald for the extra cash. Was sad to see him go as he's been top scorer the last few years, I would have kept him & sold someone else such as Hinkel & also Samaras to raise the cash.

Have to agree with a lot being said here ...

    Mowbray last night baffled me.

Why change Hovfiled and Thomson as CB pairing ... They looked good against Accies, get a partnership going. Again. O'Dea looked comfortable at LB - so why bring in Naylor!

Ok, you want Keane to do well, partner him with Fortune but not Fortune and Kamra ...

Putting Brown on at LB and get him to take the captain's armband off Loovens - WTF!

He panicked last night and has done soem damange to the team in terms of confidence...

15 match unbeaten run is needed!!!!!!!!!! <laugh>
