Tony Fernandes could be announced as the new owner of Queens Park Rangers on Monday in a deal that would mean the Asian businessman taking control of the club from Bernie Ecclestone and Flavio Briatore, in partnership with Lakshmi Mittal, who already owns 33%.

If the deal goes through it is not yet clear if Ecclestone will sell all his 66% holding in the west London club and whether Briatore will retain his 1% stake. However, given the strained relationship Mittal and his son-in-law, Amit Bhatia, have with the Formula One impresario and the former grand prix team principal Briatore, it is thought Ecclestone is likely to sell all his shares.

Ecclestone has said in the past that QPR would be for sale for £100m but the financial details of the deal being struck by Fernandes and Mittal are unknown.

Bhatia, who resigned as chairman in May in protest at ticket-price hikes and the direction the club was taking is likely to return to the board if Fernandes is successful in his attempt to take control.

A source close to the Air Asia and Team Lotus team owner told Observer Sport: "Until the deal is done [it] is not done. But we are hopeful that by Monday it could be complete. It will involve Tony buying into the club and taking charge alongside Mittal."

You have to laugh, ok I've been on holiday but same old same old. Who do the QPR fans want to "own the club" this week?

Honestly who can tell, one lot of remote foreign peeps or another lot of remote foreign peeps ....... and all of them promising Utopia. And then the much loved/hated (delete where applicable) Bernie Ecclestone says the club is worth £100m. QPR as a "football business" may have huge debts, but let's not confuse "value" with "debt".

If it sounds too good to be true, it is too good to be true. In the meantime the football season has started and QPR are bottom, 4-0 might be a touch heavy but 4-0 it was.

It's the guardian though! this is the most positive i've felt yet about a takeover..
Imagine it, an announcement on monday declaring the buyout of flav/bernie, followed by another describing the reinstatement of Bhatia + Saksena to the board..

Christmas will only come early if the deal is completed this week and Warnock is given substantial funds to buy the players he should've got at least a month ago. I'm still not convinced this is kosher...

Much as I want this to be true, I'm not holding my breathe and I'll believe it when I see it.

Warnock actually mentioned a take over in the post match interview. Surely that means something??

OK, not as good as a 100% Mittal takeover, but if Fernandes forges a good working relationship with Lakshmi and Amit, then it could be a formidable partnership. Really encouraged by this...

Look even if Fernandes buys out Bernie and Flav, what makes anyone think that Mittal will suddenly pump loads of money into the club.He certainly didn't go overboard before and Fernandes just doesn't have the neccessary funds!

I'm confident there'll be more money available to keep us in the Prem, and add to that the fact that we'll have people in charge who make good commercial judgements instead of that orange moron

So Fernandes buys out Ecclestone and then sells part of his holding to Mittal but keeps overall majority.
This is a deal I would be happy with and which Fernandes would be able to afford and still give Neil some money to spend.

Were all fed up about possible takeovers and rumours, but at the end of the day did anyone expect any different fom bernie and flav regarding investment ? As we all know we have been in much more dire predicaments than were experiencing at the moment.I like most on here have become cynical and sceptical about takeovers/rumours albeit entertaining.Theres no point in worrying about who will/wont takeover as its completely out of our hands.. so lets all try to be positive where it counts..on the pitch! and get behind Neil and the boys..come on u rrrrrsssss!
