posted on LFW. by WatfordR( think it's a different one?) ============================================ "TF was interviewed in the SSN studio this afternoon, said amongst other things that club had spoken to Beckham's people but signing him is a real long shot, that developing the club infrastructure and things like academy facilities were more important than marquee signings like Beckham, looking at a site for a training ground north of W12, and looking at various sites for a new ground which they want to be as close to W12 as possible - "we have a W12 postcode, we'd like to keep it that way" - confirmed funds available for Jan window, that having eight weeks to work on signings is a big advantage compared to the seven days they had when he arrived, and that he wants a happy club where people look forward to coming to work ech day, and a club that listens to its fans, players and staff. Plenty of praise for Phil Beard and NW. If Carlsberg did football club owners...."
I would prefer if our owner stayed out of the limelight if I'm honest. Nevertheless I really like the chap and its great to have him on board.
Tony F is different class to the last lot, its all about the team now not self promotion it used to piss me right off all the cameras pointing at the directors box spotting all Flavs hanger ons.
I think it's a crafty way of advertising our club and ambition to the better class of players. The unity and performances like Saturday's can only serve to put us on the map and make us an appealing prospect for any quality bandwagon hoppers.
TF uses sports to Promote his Businesses or rather rasie awareness, so your see a lot of him in the press and so far the more I see of him the more I like him. Breath of fresh air in the Boardroom not only says but does the right thing (so far). His ideal of building a club for the long term, investing in the Youth, Ground, building a platform which will keeps us at the top level for the long term. At the moment I don't think we could have a better owner.
He's also wisely noted that he is in the honeymoon period which will not last forever. And we should be under no illusions that the club is now part of a gigantic branding/marketing exercise for all of Tony's interests. Not a problem for me, still delighted with his involvement, and believe that he is leaving the club strategy and day to day running to Amit and Beard, which is as it should be. I hear he trusts the teams he puts in place to run his companies and only gets involved in the big strategic decisions - which he makes very quickly. Wish my boss was like that.... The acid test will come if (God forbid) we are relegated or if West Ham become available for him to buy.......I think he is a proper football fan and clearly the Hammers are his first love - he hasn't tried to hide this.
SB73, I thought the way he handled the Hammers issue was masterly. Don't try and hide or explain. Acknowledge, then buy QPR and move on! Very good PR.
Totally agree, and I suspect the more he invests financially and emotionally in us, the less interest he will have in the Hammers. Stay up and play well this season and he can take a big chunk of credit and the urge to build more will be overwhelming. North, after Saturday you may well be right. I loved his pre match comment "I don't care what the result is, as long as we give 110%" that's a real ( and realistic) fan talking, and he certainly got what he asked for.
He looked as thrilled as anyone when the first goal went in. I'm not sure that Amit and the Mittals were hoops when they first arrived but it's infectious.
Ok Pavs not the top target, but who are we expecting?. I would love Defoe/Anelka but to be honest its the Pavs of this world that will be more realistic. Anyway, did noone see Pavs last goal??...a cracker!
