Newcastle United are reportedly interested in signing Hamburg striker Mladen Petric as manager Alan Pardew looks to bring in new attacking options following the sale of Andy Carroll to Liverpool in January
    Caughtoffide

    Another ridiculous article from Metro

Qatar 2022 World Cup organisers are designing cloud-like craft that will hover between stadiums and the sun to stem the summer heat.

Didnt Mr Burns do something similar in the simpsons

Mr. Burns tried to block out the sun. And this fake cloud idea sounds silly, better than a winter World Cup though.

The fake cloud thing is possible (except you make real clouds, not exactly fake), you can even dictate weather with it to a degree. Though this was done once in England over a small town and the place suffered record rainfall and flooding.

I do apologise Smudger, I didn't realise you were an expert on artificial weather

Haha, I wouldnt be but I'm just remembering an old geography case study where this was tested and disaster ensued.

Edit: I believe this is the science behind it http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cloud_seeding

It's an interesting idea but they should play in natural conditions, it's not like we stop rain during games over here

Would we really sign a 30 year old striker? I can't see it happening.

I remember seeing Speed with Jeremmy Clarkson where he went to NASA when they tested the shuttle engines and they created clouds. But Qatar says itll be craft so whether that means theyll be piloted or remote control

Remote controlled to stay in position.

The stadiums themselves will be air conditioned and if they use 'The Laptop' it will be quite cool inside anyway.

For many years a mate of mine has insisted that everytime the space shuttle took off we would get really ****ty weather a few days later. So the last couple of times we noted when it took off and 4 days later it absolutely pissed down both times.
