It's on five live extra and on line so no need to suffer third degree Burns. http://www.bbc.co.uk/5live/sport/commentaries/
I hope the 5Live Extra commentary is better than for the Crawley game. Truly awful!! They spent a lot of time discussing whether Kingston upon Hull was in Humberside or East Yorkshire, and whether Humberside still (or ever) existed
I don't like the 5Live commentaries, they always stumble over the names of our players and there's more general waffle than actual match commentary.
typical but no surprise as the West Ham Southampton game will be on Five live. I will be at the game but if i were not then i would listen to Humberside. 5 live is getting worse these days. imo.
That'd be a first for local radio, never mind national. For all its stumblings and bumblings, I will at least listen to it with the real expectations of getting some idea of how the game's going. With Burns and Swann you simply don't get that.
When ever they do it, email in on the official complaint part of the BBC site. They get a LOT of complaints about their ignorance of regional identities from various quarters around the Country. The more that demonstrate the issues, the nearer we may ALL get to PROPER regional coverage from OUR BBC instead of some half arsed version dreamt up by suits.
Just remembered the five minutes spent describing the view from the press box..."we can see for miles around, factory chimney's and buildings in the distance" I wondered if they meant they could see Germany!
Their description of tomorrow nights game. "Commentary on Birmingham City v Hull FC in the Championship." so we have Football v the egg chasers, at least our 13 men should give us an advantage.
Its good we have a choice again still miss KCFM coverage not everyones cup of tea but alex b and ex city players seemed to be up for it .And no GOING ROUND THE GROUNDS.
Well as i will not be at the game i will listen to it on a first class commentary station with first class knowledgeable people who call it right so Humberside for me. There is a small minority of knockers out there and as the large amount of highly satisfied listeners never bother to praise our local station i thought i would in this instance up the Tigers and i would be happy with a draw ecstatic with a win cheers Alan.
Next chance you get, watch the game and listen to their commentary. You'll find that they rarely call it right. That's why so many people don't bother with it.
I must admit DMD I have not tried that so I can not comment but I have listened to a lot of comments that burnsy has put to our managers in the past and for instance one he put too Phil Brown regarding Marlon King. Phil Brown said he had dropped him because he was not putting the effort in, now one thing you could not say about Marlon was that he did not put effort in and when he finished the interview Burnsy said what I was thinking. But I will try that at the next match I attend and let you know.
It's all about opinions and choices. Some peoples choices are limited by where they've ended up living, which can also affect what they form their opinions on. I've sometimes managed to listen to other local radio stations coverage of our games when we're away and not always, but quite often they spend their time talking about events on the pitch and trying to give the listner an indication of what's actually occuring on the pitch. I find Burns and Swann try to be a double act interupted by their impressions of a game rather than specifics. They have changed of late because they have realised that a lot of people are just drifting away because of it. I posted the link to five live extra as an additional option for people. As some have said, their coverage may be equally poor. There could be a link to Birmingham Radio somewhere.
