Should we have a No 1 keeper and if so who?

  1. Tommy

  2. Begovic

    Hi all!

Thought it would be good to discuss something different than performances in general so would like your thoughts on our Keepers.

Firstly, I would like to say that I am very happy with both our keepers and think that we are very strong in this area compared to other teams. However, Tommy hasn't been great of late (IMO) and even though we have a few cup games coming up I was wondering whether or not Begovic will get a run back in the prem side?

Given that Begovic was dropped in favour of Tommy for a few poor games you would think that our Tone would show some consistencey, rest Tommy and give Begovic a run back in the side. Alternatively, if we have good couple of results in Europe and the FA Cup, these comps may become the priority for TP and he will just operate in a get by fashion for the remaining league games, so may choose to leave the keepers as they are?

I've voted for Begovic, purely because he's younger. I think both of them are about as good as each other, but obviously Begovic being younger has potential to get even better. I think Begovic would have been down for the coming cup matches anyway, but with Sorenson not being at his best recently, might make is way back in to the Prem squad, depending how he plays, and how Sorenson looks in training.

Had you asked this at the beginning of the season I would have said Begovic. Not quite sure what happened though earlier this season but I think he seriously had his confidence dented at the away game to Sunderland and did not look as solid after that. Bego has been on the wrong end of sum of our heaviest defeats. He pulls off some fantastic saves and then other times looks dodgy and prone to an error or too. Tommy is solid and was a good peno saver (not saved one for a bit now though). As above I think there is not a lot between them but my vote goes to Tommy as he just edges Bego when I see them come out of the tunnel I feel that little bit more confident in Tommy. Bego is still young though and no doubt be a top keeper. Chelsea would not have been after him otherwise!

I honestly dont mind, they are both quality keepers. like people have said tommy has the experience whereas asmir has the potential to be world class.
Asmir will learn from tommy by watching him(hopefully) and within a couple of years be one of the best keepers around.

For me it's hard to split them?
Tommy was playing the Europa games.. Begovic the League as T.P. said, we'll change the team around.
Since then, I think Tommy just edges it on Begovic although I'm sure I've read that the ONLY two certs to start tonight are..

Begovic and Huth! I voted for Tommy but only because I think, tonight he has far more experience. Apart from that Demsey shot on Saturday. I think he should have saved it.. not done too much wrong for me this season.. so it's Tommy who get's my vote.

  6. Bego for me although Tommy has been a wonderful servant. He has produced great saves but for me I am always a little concerned on crosses. Begovic is young and I hope will only get better
