Tommy Smith sends QPR warning By Jacob Murtagh Aug 8 2011 Share Add a comment Recommend TOMMY Smith has warned Jamie Mackie and new signing Keiron Dyer they face a fight for QPR's right-wing spot. The former Watford star looks set to get the nod for this Saturday's Premier League opener against Bolton, with Dyer preferred to Bradley Orr at right-back for Friday's friendly at Luton and Mackie still not fit following his double leg break in January. And Smith insists he's hell-bent on keeping his spot in the starting XI. He said: âWhen you get promotion you always need to strengthen your squad. You can't just have one player for each position. âObviously I'm fighting for my spot. It's always a bit of a worry when a signing comes in in your position, but the added competition keeps you on your toes. âI started seven games during pre-season, which is much more games than I've played elsewhere. Hopefully I've benefited from that come Saturday.â Smith struck six times as QPR romped to the Championship title last campaign. But the 31-year-old hopes he can beat that tally in the top flight. He added: âWith Watford in the Premier League I think I started around 10 games and managed a couple of goals. It's definitely something I want to improve on. âThere's no excuses and I need to get on the scoresheet more. If I could get seven or eight I would be delighted.â Follow us on Facebook and Twitter for the latest QPR news. I'm a big fan of Tommy and I feel he should be our regular left winger. He's quick, excellent at crossing, quite skilful, quality workrate and is good at finishing. what's not to like?
i hope he gets a go this year, with Tommy on the left DJ on the right and Jay down the middle with Adel and Ali just behind i'm optamistic about going forward lets just hope we can score more than we concede, i see a lot of 4-3s this year
