STOKE CITY have today secured the futures of their two international goalkeepers Asmir Begovic and Thomas Sorensen with new contracts.

Bosnia and Herzegovena star Begovic and Denmark skipper Sorensen have both committed themselves to the Club by signing new deals.

Begovic, a £3.25 million signing from Portsmouth, has agreed a new four-and-a -half year contract, while Sorensen, who joined the Potters on a free transfer following their promotion to the Premier League, has signed for another two-and-a-half years.

Manager Tony Pulis welcomed news of the two agreements by reaffirming that the Club are as strong in the goalkeeping department as any Premier League club with the experienced Carlo Nash acting as back-up to his frontline 'keepers.

It also sets down City's intention to continue moving forward at a time when they lie eighth in the Premier League table and are through to the Round of 32 in the Europa League where they are drawn to face Spanish giants Valencia.

Both Begovic and Sorensen have been influential figures in the progress which has been made by the Club over the past twelve months which has seen them reach a first-ever FA Cup Final and qualify for Europe for the first time in 37 years.

"It's fantastic news that we have settled the immediate futures of our two main goalkeepers," proclaimed Pulis. "It's important to have good competition for places in all areas of the squad and nowhere is it better than there.

"In Asmir, I believe we have the best young goalkeeper in England who has shown his great potential since he came to the Club and he certainly has a big part to play in our future as we look to continue the progress we have made.

"As I have stated before though, it is also important to look after those who have got us where we are today, and Thomas has been a major influence upon what we have achieved.

"He has been an outstanding professional who has thrived upon the challenge now facing him and I am delighted to have secured his experience."

Pulis added: "When you are looking to build something, you need a solid base and we are fortunate to have two top, top 'keepers, not forgetting, of course, that there is also Carlo as a more than capable deputy waiting in the wings."

That's got to be great news for Stoke to have two top keepers extending their contracts. Tommy has been excellent over the years and Begovic is class. It will be interesting to see how things pan out for both of them but for them both to commit to Stoke is excellent news
