Nope. Saw him play in a pre season friendly for Crewe a few years ago. Big lump then, still is. Parkin Lite!
I'm not sure why people keep posting random names of lower league players that we'll never look at in a million years. Pope's having a good season, but he's 27, has only just managed to make it into league football and he scored 5 in 41 games in League Two last season.
When I've seen him, he doesn't look very good finisher. Always looks like he needs 3/4 chances before he puts one away.
Not a random name, just a thought after all these striker rumours. I bet he'd score more at this level than Mclean has. Nothing wrong with signing a goalscorer from the lower leagues. Danny Graham came from lower league, although he was younger and had played higher previously.
at 1st i thought it maybe worth a punt on a cheap deal as Austin and Le Fondre where lower league risks.. but didnt realise he was 27, seems more of a danger could be a one season wonder..
Does everyone forget that Aaron McLean was in the same boat as most of the strikers previous. Lots of goals at league 1 level.
He's 27 and this is the first time he's scored more than ten goals in a season and he played some of those seasons in the Conference North. In the three full seasons prior to this one, he score a grand total of nine goals in League Two. He'll kill for Mclean's goal scoring record.
Yep your all right - Tom Pope is too old and below our level. I should have thought about it longer! Which idiot started this thread anyway!!????
Re. Tom Pope. Read Lambert - Holt - Graham - La Fondre - Austin - Hooper and a few more i would say. Until a championship or PL ever sign him we shall never know. Dont forget that Ian Wright was well into his 20's when Palace took a chance on him. The rest is history. For old fans, the likes of Ian Rush, Kevin Keegan were lower league signings by Liverpool.
Yes, we don't score enough goals. We've lost and drawn games we should have won and in the second half of the season we'll be made to pay if we don't improve the situation(particularly after our rivals have strengthened).
Yes we do. With another 10 goals from someone Hull City would now be on top spot and something like 12 points clear of 3rd. We have very winnable fixtures over the next 2 months so now is the time to cement a top 2 spot.
I'm pretty sure that SB has his spies out & is watching anyone who can score goals & is considering them. After all it's his job to figure out what we need. Everyone assumed Proshwitz would be a big scorer this season when we signed him for 2.5 mill, & now because he hasn't scored except for the 2 he got v Ipswich, I keep reading that we should loan him out or get rid & cut our losses. I think SB has a better idea than most people on here, no matter how many games, reserve games & juniors games that they go to.
