Hi I was wondering if you could tell me some of your best memories of Huddlestone and some of his best matches for yourself. I wouldn't mind looking them up on Youtube to see him having a top performance at Spurs. He is probably one of the best signings we have ever made and him and Curtis Davies are arguably 2 of the best players we have had in the history of the club. He really is a cut above and a real quality player. We got him at an absolute steal and couldn't believe you sold him let alone for that price. When he plays his a game he real makes us tick. It's a shame that most clubs realised that if he plays well then we play well and then just played him out of the game. He is our main creative attacking outlet especially with Robbie Brady being a long term injured player. We are in the market for another creative midfielder which only means that Huddlestone will be freed up and will likely have an even better second season. It's a shame he didn't make the England squad because he really deserved it on form and would be a great alternative in the squad. I have no doubt that had he played the way he did for us at Spurs then he would have made the squad. In a strange turn of events if we do sign Livermore them it's likely going to be for more than we signed Huddlestone for.
I was disappointed Spurs sold him and he was let go too cheaply in my opinion, he would have offered us more from CM than one or two others did last season. Also, he (or Carrick) would have suited the inevitable slower passing game in the heat of Brazil and would have been a good addition to the England squad with his fine range of passing. Instead, England chose the misery of Jordan Henderson
Huddlestone was cheap because of his long list of injury problems and the fact he failed a medical just for a loan spell at Stoke the season before. It wasn't a reflection of his ability and I'm glad he's getting regular football and playing well. He was too good to be struggling to make the bench with us but not good enough to be a first team regular so the move suited all parties. As for memories, my favourite was his goal against Bolton because I was in the 3rd row in the behind the goal and saw the ball fly into the top corner. The City goal was probably his best, incredible technique on the half volley and he scored a screamer in the UEFA Cup too although I can't remember who it was against. Here's the Bolton one: please log in to view this image Here's the City one: Back when playing City was 6 points for us every season And I found the UEFA Cup one, it was against Zagreb: Pretty sure I'd have been at the game actually but I don't think I had a good view of it to realise just how good the goal was.
YV already beat me to the one I was going to mention - the strike against City - it was just sublime. There are very few footballers in the WORLD who could've struck the ball as sweetly as that. The saying of "you never know what you've got 'til it's gone" really rung true with me this season. When we sold Tommy, I didn't realise just how much we'd miss him. None of our CM's can pass or strike a ball like he can and there were so many times throughout the season where we lacked that creative spark, something which Tommy could've provided. I hope we haven't seen the last of Hudd in a Spurs shirt. My only main criticism of him would be that for a guy who can hit a ball so beautifully, he really should get on the score sheet more often.
Always said he was the best striker of a ball I've ever seen , we should never have sold him, he changed the game a couple of times towards the end of last season especially the 3-1 win at home to City, nevermind we got Paulinho instead!! Although he preferred his right his left was equally as good, check out the goal v arsenal at home (about 50seconds in) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b9JRiu4yNrg just put his hand up and walked off as though anybody could do it
I spent many posts moaning about how important it was to keep him, and many more about how we need to replace him. On the other hand, I'm really glad he's found a good club where he's been able to shine and be appreciated. As it happens, both he and Livermore seem to be great people. The pass to Bale at 3:29 below is what we need next year. Not spectacular, just perfectly weighted. (Having someone like Bale on the end of it wouldn't hurt either, of course...)
