Pleased that Hugill picked up a couple of goals. Helps me to believe that we are not necessarily dependent on Pukki up front for every game
Impressed with the way both Hugill and Cantwell prepared in the off season so they were ready to earn their places in the squad. Hugill now has 6 goals in the pre-season and definitely offers a plan B option.

Is it just a coincidence that neither played much last season.

I remember Hugill getting alot of stick from the West Brom fans on loan last season .
Pretty sure if things had gone better Cantwell would have loved to sign for Cherries .
In a roundabout way both loans benefited them

Yes Hugill has scored 6 goals and there is an element of you have to be there to put it in the net, but I’ll be very suprised if he has 5 or 6 easier chances to score this season.
Last nights 2 were essentially on a plate for him, similarly for the 2 unmarked headers on the 6 yard box against Marseille.

True, but credit Jordan with managing to get into unmarked positions and placing the headers accurately, both things our other players fail to do regularly.

I have noticed that we are less predictable with Hugill up front and our wingers are putting crosses in , instead of passing backwards from wide areas .

He's been more impressive than Pukki Sargent and Idah

By this I meant because they weren't playing, their season ended earlier than most, so they had a break and started pre season fresher. So maybe they're near to match fitness than some others that had injuries or finished last season later.

Having watched the highlights all 3 goals were well worked and taken well. Gibbs did very well to react quickly get an excellent snap shot past the keeper. Hugill's first came through good positioning and the buildup and the second was from a fairly acute angle requiring precision to beat the keeper.

The more I am seeing of this pre-season, the more confidence I am getting about the stewardship of our management team for an assault on a position at the top table once again. And that is without our new recruits, and possible future recruits, showing their abilities on the field as yet. I know pre-season can be very misleading but it is not so much what has happened, but more how it has happened.

Celtic will be a good test of where we are
