Ok. So I've been home a few hours after watching the game today. I've had a few glasses of red and I've commented on a few threads.
I just thought I'd like to give my comments on each player and a mark out of ten. I know there are all the other issues like the board, lack of signings etc, but I thought I'd get your opinions on the players' actual performances. So, here goes......................
Kenny - 7. Didn't think his kicking was quite so good today and he had a rush of blood when he charged out, only to be nearly lobbed by the impressive Petrov. Didn't think he was at fault for any of the goals though.
Dyer - N/A. Not a recurring injury, so unlucky imo.
Orr - 3. Awful. Totally destroyed by Petrov. Too slow.
Gabbidon - 8. Our best defender imo. Quite quick and read the game well. Good blocks too.
Hall - 6. Not too bad. Not good enough for the Prem.
Hill - 4. Didn't play too badly, but completely stupid getting himself sent off!
Derry - 6. Solid enough, but got out-played by their midfield at times.
Faurlin - 6. Same as Derry. Gave the ball away too much at times.
Smith - 5. Terrible effort on goal from a good opportunity in the first half. Kept running at their defence but then ran out of ideas totally.
Taarabt - 6. Well marked by their combative midfield. Fantastic effort in the 2nd half whilst the score was still only 1 -0. Just too high with the keeper watching on, stranded!
Cambell - 5. Looked very quick, but very lightwight. Hopefully he will take some chances if we create any for him!!
Bothroyd - 6. Looked a good player and won a fair few headers and flick ons. Could be a good signing.
Buzz - 6. Terrible free kick but looked pretty good on the ball. Can't see him and Adel in the same team. Probably past his best.
Helguson - 5. No impact when he came on. (But his wife, who he arrived with today get's 10 out of 10!!!!).
Warnock - 6. We all know he's seriously hampered, but I question his selection of Hall over Gorrks and he should have left Adel on the pitch no matter how knackered he was, he was the only one who could have made something happen for us!!
    Cerny Berny - 0. Rubbish predictions. :emoticon-0149-no: (Sorry....couldn't resist)::emoticon-0110-tongu
I think we were the better side in the first half and, if one or two chances had been taken, it could have been different. Too soon for a knee-jerk reaction imo, but we weren't wrong when we said we needed some better defenders!!

IMO you've been a bit harsh there on Derry I think. I reckon he was one of our best players today, and certainly had more touches then anyone else, and was also constantly clearing up after Adel and breaking things up. On the other hand, I think you've been very generous to Gabbidon (well, he did score I suppose ;) ) and particularly to Hall, who I thought had a shocker in the second half. Apart from that, fair enough

Already given my opinion on orr.
Taraabt was one of our worst players though, we carried him today. Stood out for lack of effort in a first half when everyone else put in a good shift, 6 is flattering.
I think 8 flatters gabbidon too, you think he was our best player?
Bothroyd deserves more than 6, he looked very very classy, i was suprised how involved in the game he was in the first half, i always had him down for more of a lazy target man.
cheers for writing that up! Interesting to see other people's opinions :)

Orr was not awful. He and Hall were ok. Faurlin was awful though. Smith, Campbell and Bothroyd did well, as did Buzsaky when he came on.

spot on mate. Atleast I know I went to the same game as you, and not the game some of the others went to.

Only slight quibble with comments, would be Smith. Think he did alot of work covering in front of Hill

That's football guys. Quite a wide-ranging difference of opinion from people who, I presume, all were at the game. I DO think Gabbidon was our best player and Orr our worst! I possibly was a little hard on Derry and Bothroyd, both should probably of got a 7. Amazing how we see the same game so differently eh? By the way, I was 2 seats from the politician Alan Johnson who said he was a life-long fan. I noticed he was sitting in a season ticket seat which didn't bare his name though!! Dodgy politicians!!

I actually didn't think anyone was awful. Tarbs had one of his games like many last season, derry surprised me, i thought he did pretty well. we need strengthening in many departments otherwise i reckon we could set a record for the lowest amount of points in the premiership! We weren't poor but instead just not good enough to beat an average team.

Nice work Col. Of course we all see things slightly differently. That's why football is all about opinions and debate. For what it's worth, this is my take.

Kenny - 7 From his body language, not half as comfortable with his defence as was last year. Agree didn't think he was at fault for any of the goals.
Dyer - N/A. Not a recurring injury... but expected casualty just the same.
Orr - 6 Slow yes, but not awful. Petrov's a handfull and one of Bolton's best yesterday.
Gabbidon - 7. Our best defender imo too. Quite quick and read the game well. Good blocks too.
Hall - 6 Agreed, not bad. Not good enough for the Prem.
Hill - 6 Agreed, didn't play too badly...
Derry - 7 Solid enough and more mobile than usual. You could see him adjusting to prem level as game went on. Lost it at the end.
Faurlin - 4 Very poor. Gave the ball away too much.
Smith - 6 Did what Tommy does but Bolton didn't provide the opportunities he needs.
Taarabt - 5 Evidently not the Pele he thinks he is. A lot to learn. It'll take more than a couple of shots to earn pedigree.
Cambell - 6 Bit of a Routeledge playing centre forward. Better than WR though 'cos he's an R and stayed awake throughout. Very little service to work from.
Bothroyd - 6 Is a good signing but couldn't influence yesterday.
Buzsaki - 6 Looked hungry (pun not intended) and pretty good on the ball.
Helguson - 4 Agreed, absolutely no impact when he came on.

    Warnock - 5

Not a good day for Sir Neil. Plymouth and Luton suggested our weaknesses and Bolton confirmed them. When resources can't fill the gaps, it's time to be resourceful. Well that didn't happen. Venables would have had plans A,B and C and choreographed tactical changes for each. Not Warnock's way, he works on team morale and self-belief but after Dyer's injury, that wasn't in evidence yesterday.

Team Selection: No Gorkss was the real big mystery. This aside, picked the only players he could.

Formation: Hard to tell on the pitch. 4231 or even 4222. The latter probably explains the lack of width and general shambles. If we're going to stand any chance of surviving, we're going to need to learn a solid 442, 4141 or 4132 imo.

Organisation: As much down to captain as manager BUT Taarabt is no skipper, lacks the tactical awareness, no authority and no real respect from the team.

Plan: Hit the ground running then wait and see what happens.

Contingency: Big weakness in Warnock's approach to date. Doesn't seem to do contingencies if/when there's a reverse (no skipper confirms this).

Overall Effectiveness: No cohesion. The link between Taarabt, Bothroyd and Campbell is completely missing as is the quick one / two touch pass and move comprehension we had working last year.

Bolton - 7 Nothing spectacular. Just patient, better organised and far more effective as a unit.

A 3 for Orr is pretty generous. Slow, can't tackle, can't head a ball and 9 times out of 10 just whacks the ball aimlessley forward rather than bringing it under control.
