We're looking at Ricardo Rocha, ex-Portsmouth centre back Clearly the Portsmouth connection at the club is advising on other players who were of high quality and still available But who does he replace? Lees or Peltier? Is Lees seen as a better centre back then Peltier, but not as good as Rocha? I see Peltier as better and stronger at centre back alongside Pearce, with Lees at right back - we have been more solid with this combination in general. So is Lees seen as a better right back than Peltier? Is Peltier seen as a weak link, or is it Lees? What about Drury? Is Peltier higher up the pecking order for left back slot than Drury if the rightback and centreback slots are taken? I know nothing about this Rocha guy at all, but if he is worth the £3.3m paid 5 years ago, how does that impact on the squad? If he is that good, he won't be coming here with an eye on the bench, but on squeezing one of the current players out. After the problems we have had with terrible defending in recent years, I guess it is a nice problem to have unless it completely backfires and Warnock can't make up his mind
I think he will be coming in as back-up/rotation. He's getting into the final years of his career but I think he would be a useful addition to the squad.
I think the fact we are looking at another over aged player with little to offer shows we are still a long way off the T/O
Think he has more than a little to offer, if only for his experience. He'll be good to have in and around the squad. Even if he signs on a 3 month contract until the January transfer window, I'll feel more comfortable having back up and depth in the squad. If Lees or Pearce were to get injured we're looking horrifically thin at the back...
I think he'd replace Kissa on the bench if anything. And I really don't see Lees as a weak link and think Pearce and Lees really are first choice CBs and Peltier is only used as back-up for CB. I've only seen Drury for a little over 1 game and he looked good and far more solid than White in that position. I personally don't like RBs playing at LB (just like Johnson for liverpool) but if he is more solid then I'm open to it. I wouldn't mind giving Byram a rest now and again though, he's still young and while he has been performing well, its good to give youngsters rest to keep them fresh and stop them from getting fatigued
