If we hadn't won today, football would have died a little bit. Our win not only sees us still in the mix for a top 4 finish, but it (yet again) showcases the EPL as the most exciting league in world football. The Gunners now have two massive games to win, and they dare not even contemplate a draw. Best of all, they play two teams that, whilst struggling at the bottom of the league, absolutely have to win in order to ensure survival. What is more, both Wigan and the Toon have the ability to, at the very least, get a draw against them. Wigan, especially, will be up for it, having secured a historic FA Cup victory against £ity, and they will not want to face the ignominy of being relegated. If Wigan do manage to get a point against the Gunners, our last match of the season, at home to Sunderland, will arguably be the biggest last-day match we've had to play since we bounced back from the old Division Two (remember that one, lads?). Few thought that the excitement of last season could be topped, but this season is proving to be the most exciting since records began, particularly for North London. What ever happens, and however it pans out, we can be proud of what our team has achieved this season. Which of us truly believed, 10 games into the season, that we would be battling for CL football next season? As for Stoke City... would any true fan of football honestly cry over their absence from top-flight football? They are the new Wimbledon.
"If Wigan do manage to get a point against the Gunners, our last match of the season, at home to Sunderland, will arguably be the biggest last-day match we've had to play since we bounced back from the old Division Two (remember that one, lads?)." I won't be squatting around a portable radio this time though.
I was at the game. If I recall correctly, we needed other results to go our way, and people around us were listening to the radio.
Newcastle won today so the Arsenal game may not have as much bite to it come the final day. Over you you Wigan!
Just a correction, the Toon don't need to absolutely win to survive. They are on the clear as of today.
That's harsh on Wimbledon, HIAG!!! As I said on the match thread, I would almost be as happy to see that bunch of cloggers get relegated this year as I would get CL. As for the rest of your post....
Great post. Stoke were truly awful today. I'm all for different styles of football in the premier league but what they play to me isn't football. I appreciate they have done well to stay in the premiership but surely with the players they now have they could try passing it about a bit rather than lump it up to the big striker and hope somebody gets the knock down all the while trying to kick seven shades of **** out of the opposition.
And their manager Pulis riles me as well, baseball cap-wearing twat!!! Puts out teams to smother and assault the opposition and then acts like the worlds against him. Teams don't act like they do unless 'inspired' to do so - over the top tacking, elbows and forearms and then off the ball wind-ups. Geez - makes it sounds like a talentless version of Leeds in the 70's!! Frankly, it says it all if even the board at Stoke have reached the end of the road with him.
Pulis and Stoke are a disgrace to football with their over physical hoof it and run style, it will be a happy day when they are finally relegated back to their level. The only good thing about Stoke is they paid us good money for deadwood Crouch and Palacios.
All we can do now is to beat Sunderland - if we do then Arsenal have to win both their final two games and we can do nothing about it.
absolute bullshit opening post and further comments you only beat us with an offside goal - http://www.footytube.com/video/stoke-city-tottenham-hotspur-may12-177085 With the players you have against the ones we have you should have been way better. You were lucky to get all 3 points with a biased ref and a linesman that could not keep up with the game! You sound like a bunch of pansies and no better than your neighbouring ballerina friends!
