it was an honour to watch him play magic stuff from him & he started rangers back on the road to good times.
Yes, let's salute the great player he was today; he brought headlines, glamour and excitement for arguably the first time to a small West London club and left them blinking in the sunlight (no, I'm not referring to Fulham). Happy birthday RODNEY
Great player and a QPR legend. I remember 'keeping en eye' on his sports car while i was as an office boy at the club in 1967. The no plate was EGO1.
Northy thanks for posting this, brings back a lot of memories, especially the 67 league cup final clip, i was there as a 6 year old so don't remember too much about it, happy days. Rodneeeee was a genius and started our long history of great players wearing the No 10 shirt, long may it continue. Up the R's
That no plate probably reflects how a lot of people would regard him today; not me, I'm still starstruck by the man. How did he seem to you in those days, rebel?
there's a lot of old coggers on here having seen him play including myself but class myself young & still working!
I worked as a programme seller and then in Ron Phillips office as a general dogsbody from 67-70 so i was just a kid but i observed everything and virtually lived at Loftus Road. Rodney was a smashing bloke. Very friendly with a great sense of humour. He had a succession of blonde birds who used to come to games, including Carol White the actress in Poor Cow, whose old man was a rag and bone man (as mine was). She was a cracker. He was a glamorous figure and lots of film stars like Terry Stamp, Julie Christie, David Hemmings used to watch the R's but Rodney was more charismatic than the lot of em. He obviously had a big ego but everybody loved him especially Jim Gregory and Alec Stock. Rodney was quite a good artist and used to do sketches of people and he was deaf in one ear. That was a golden time for QPR with Mark Lazarus, the Morgan twins, and a bunch of players who played with a smile on their face. The 66-67 season was brilliant and Rodney was undoubtedly the golden boy of that time.
What a turn up! All these years the only famous person I thought shared my birthday was one of Hall and Oates, and all the time the great Rodney Marsh did!!! I don't remember him as a player, but any hoops legend is alright by me. Cheers for this
Rodney Marsh? Well there's a blast from the past. Can't believe I was sat right next to him once at David Lloyd's. I think he has taken up Tennis these days or something like that. Comes across as a decent guy, quite loud though
When Rodney made his move up the road from Fulham to QPR, some Fulham fans actually changed allegiance and became R's fans in order to continue supporting Rodney. One of them was a Mr Francis, who took his son Gerry to Loftus Road...Rodney was the start of good times. Happy Birthday, mate! You were something else...
Rodney is a Rangers legend and was a fantastic player. Happy Birthday Rodney, you indeed were something else!!
Some great contributions on this thread, especially rebel's reminiscences and the pictures on qprreports; brings it all back to life again! The Big Match occasionally hosted by Terry Mancini sometimes had Rodney and Terry Venables as studio guests and they really are well worth a watch. Great banter and knockabout humour, often completely ignoring the football.Wouldnt happen today, sheer entertainment.
