Don't have a link but reports in Belgium saying we are in for him on a season long loan. 25 yer old Belgian international.
God help us with people trying to spell his name. Toby Aldiweirdworld..This should be fun. MERCATO According to our colleagues Het Laatste Nieuws, Atletico Madrid and Sunderland have reached an agreement to transfer Toby Alderweireld. This would be a one-year loan with no option. The Red Devil is lack of playing time and made no secret of his desire to join the English league. Now that the clubs agree on the terms of the loan, Alderweireld must sit at the table with the leaders of Sunderland. http://www.dhnet.be/sports/football...oute-vers-sunderland-53fd7c29357030e6103b3534
How the "mighty" hath fallen. The summer just after we finished fifth, he said he did not want to join us as he refused to join a team not in the CL. While he was (and is) a good CB, he wasn't (isn't) CL quality. Now it appears he is knocking around mid table as he has been found out at the very top level
Think its something more to do with a lack of game time Only had 22 apps all season including europe and domestic cups To be fair though, you wouldn't tinker with the defence that won the league...
Played 12 times for them after signing for them in January. Thats not that bad considering they won the league. Ill be surprised if he leaves at all never mind comes here. We have a big job next summer with our centre back situation. Oshea and Brown are surely in their last year at this level. Id like to have seen a young talented centre back brought in permamately and phased into the side learning from Brown. Then when next summer comes long we already have an established centre back to play with a new signing. Far too much thought and logic in that though for safc I think
Maybe that is where Vergini might end up, you never know, this Celtic bloke looks cool as well we should get them both in permanent if we can. This would be better than spending a fortune 14m on a striker who is worth 8m max.
Little bit unfair that mate, he's a very, very capable CB and is certainly capable of CL football, if not quite the mega-club level. He struggled for games due to Godin & Miranda being fit and not banned all season, a season Atletico finished with one of the best defensive records in Spanish football history. Would be a quality signing.
5 mins · @svenclaes @SunderlandAFC11 @SAFCsource Sunderland have agreed terms with Atlético, but Poyet isn't convinced. Struggle beween coach and management.
According to his agent there's been no contact at all. http://www.voetbalkrant.com/nl/nieu...and-geen-gesprekken-over-verandering-van-club Alderweireld to Sunderland? "No conversations about change of club" Light at the end of the tunnel. Atlético Madrid would have an agreement with Sunderland on the rental of Toby Alderweireld. Concrete or not? Vic Alderweireld, which represents the interests of his son, as yet heard nothing from Madrid corner. "To my knowledge, Atlético have no other option compared to last week," said father Alderweireld at Voetbalkrant.com . "Until today I have not received any invitation to start talking about a change of club. Toby with the board still with Atlético." That the file so long winded find the agent is not abnormal. "If you know what brokers can earn when transfers are also eager involved in the case. For us, time does not begin to penetrate. He has a good contract for three seasons with the club. Obviously he wants to play anymore. Atlético know and will do everything to make it change. "something Gradually, more and more outward signs that the Spanish champions just want to know a rental without purchase. A sign that faith is not lost in the defender. "That is true," said Dad Alderweireld. "After last year's talks with Atlético found that have a future they see in Toby and not bought him just to have around him., I am really convinced that there is nothing changed."
Sounds like a load of old ****e to me. Can't see how Poyet could be unconvinced, the lad's quality. Unless he only wants him if a permanent fee is built-in? Besides, over on Fyassbook they're saying the report was wrong and he's actually going to Saints.
I don't quite get this. We have Brown, O'Shea, Roberge and Vergini to cover CB this season. Why would we want to blood someone else's player when we're already covered? It's next season when the Brown and O'Shea contracts run out that we'll be short of CBs, and if this doesn't carry an option to buy, I wouldn't entertain it. I think Poyet's right here. We need to buy a CB and blood him for next season, not rent one who'll be gone precisely when we need him.
