When a man is knighted, they are titled Sir...and as far as Masky is concerned, Sir replaces Mr and used accordingly...or so Masky thought!

    Rugby Union
Last week, I cringed when the ITV presenter in the studio chat kept referring to Ian McGeechan as Sir Ian instead of Ian!

    Cricket
Back in the summer, TV pundit David Gower kept addressing Beefy Botham as Sir Ian in normal conversation...awkward!

    Football
I mentioned before that working class hero Bobby Charlton said Lady Norma and I deeply regret....at Ray Wilson’s funeral!

Is it Masky, has the world gone mad....fug off!

    Rant over, Sir Masky! :emoticon-0103-cool:

So why don’t the Wimbledon commentators say good shot Sir Andy or the athletics commentators say good running Sir Mo or the cricket commentators say good shot Sir Alistair or the cycling commentators say good cycling Sir Bradley?

Or why don’t they just wait until they’re a lot older before knighting them? If at all but that’s another debate!

    Dont get me started.
Its always ranckled with me nin.
If after their career is over, a sportsman puts something back into the game, becomes an ambassador or philanthropic, etc, then fine. But why knight someone for being good at their jobs?
Any knighted brickies, plasterers or carpenters?
Its all about their profile. I thought a knight was supposed to be noble and honourable.
Mo came across to the uk, leaving his brother behind, became a uk citizen, then buggered off to the states because the training was better. What has he done for the uk that is noble or honourable? :emoticon-0121-angry

Hmmm, you must have been watching different coverage from me Masky.
The pundits are ok, but most of the commentators know 2 thirds of **** all about rugby. Either that or they start dwelling on one aspect of the game because they've just found out about it themselves.
Watched a lot of the games live and all of the highlights. Some good match ups between the tier 2 countries.
Missed this mornings game as i was out at half 6 fencing a field with my daughter. Just had a shower, will have some lunch, then watch it.
    Funny old tournament.
NZ beat SA in the pool stages, england stuff NZ, SA beat england.
