So Bill Belichick thinks that the PAT is no good anymore and feels that given the 99.6% success rate this year the play is so easy as to be pointless.

Its definitely a debate to be had. What do you guys think?

I certainty agree that the PAT is the most boring play in existence! There is no danger of the kicker missing that chip shot, and its nearly impossible for a defence to block the kick from that distance. Why not change things up and make it more interesting?

I quite like the idea of making the Kicker drop kick the PAT as it would make it a skill and an art again, that or move the line back to the 20 which would make it more of a FG attempt and add a bit of risk to the play.

Whilst I know its very unlikely the idea of having the person who scores the TD take the PAT would certainly provide some entertainment. Just imagine some of the sights you would see as the TE i.e 250lb Julius Thomas or a 300lb lineman taking the kick! It would certainly be a spectical.

For a long time up until 1974 the goal posts were at the front of the endzone, after that they were moved to the back. The ball was still spotted on the 2 yard line so it must have been even easier to kick a pat from about 9 yards away, as opposed to 19 or so now.

How they could change it up a bit would be difficult. To make it harder to score by increased distance or drop kicking, could lead teams to try for two far more often. I think for a new rule they would have to radically change things altogether.

For me the fact that there are two options, make things much more interesting and it would be a shame if they changed that.
