Now that he has helped us secure promotion and returned to Carrow Road to cover for injury, has Leon Barnett left a gaping hole in our defensive capabilities? Barnett, who signed a three year deal for Norwich in January 2011 seemed to establish a solid foundation in the heart of our defence with each passing game. Assuming that he'll probably come at a reasonable price as his contract nears it's end, should Malky make him our first signing for the coming season? http://www1.skysports.com/football/news/11095/8668802/
From what I saw of him I'd say yes, he was a lot quicker than our centre backs and think he could add to our back four.
I think we should buy a better CB to replace him. That way we can keep the players that have earned a crack at the prem.
I will be gutted if we don`t get him, once he settled in we seemed much more secure. The other thing is he is always there for the long ball and it goes right back at the opposition instead of passing it between the back four. jck
We could do a lot worse than make him a permanent signing. He steadied the defence when we all thought Hudson would be badly missed.
Yes, I think he will be a useful acquisition for next season. Up to Malky to do a deal. I'm disappointed we won't have him for the last 2 games which are still important, if only to reaffirm our status as the best side in the division. Unless Connolly is fit (any updates?) then it is down to the Big and Baby Bens for the final 2 games - not ideal having 2 left footed cb's. If you've ever played at cb you will know what I am talking about. Alternatively Oshilaja or Yorwerth could be given a chance after doing well for the Development Squad? I also feel sorry for Barnett, having done so well getting us over the final hurdle only to be taken back to Norwich before the end of season celebrations. I hope he is asked abck for the bus tour on 5th May if avialable. That would be a nice touch by the club.
I don't think it is a bad idea to buy him. Quality DCs do not grow on trees, and are hard to pry away from clubs. He may have struggled at Norwich, but Cardiff looks a good match for him. He seemed to enjoy the promotion party. All in all there seem to be more reasons to buy then not to. He may have impressed Norwich with his form however, and they may well keep him or raise his price considerably.
He came into a new side at a crucial time for us and he did not let us down like some loans we had in the past. Would be nice to see him on the bus. jck
Sad news - Leon Barnett has been recalled by Norwich. I liked him a lot & hope that maybe Malky can put a bid in for him in the summer: http://www.cardiffcityfc.co.uk/news/article/barnett-return-789688.aspx
He would be an excellent addition to the squad. His performances improved as he became more settled and match fit. Also, Turners game improved immesurably whilst they were together. Leon shows real consistency and quality, just what we need in the prem. We need a bigger squad and he would be perfect.
