It was a fantastic result yesterday and I have every confidence that the team will get back to winning ways at home too on wednesday. Which could cause a bit of a dilema. Having won yesterday and then if we carry that on to Wednesday and the weekend against the Wall we will have 53 points and will have put a bit of distance between us and those seen as our main rivals, with the exception of Hull. But given Malky's reluctance to be drawn into the Jan transfer window sales and his beleif that it is a price infated panic sale, what if we get those results and it convinces him we don't need any new blood???? How many of us would agree with him, remembering how teams burn out just short of the finish?
That does worry me too Snaggs, and I said so on the "Complacency Trap" thread. To use Malky's own words yesterday, "when you start believing your own hype, that's when you're in trouble."
MM has gone on record as saying not to expect much activity in the Jan window. Perhaps he feels the required quality of player isn't available and is priming us for no activity or he's being a canny scot.
Don't agree there's no chance. We could quite easily be top 2 without recruiting - trouble is it could depend upon other clubs around us failing. What we'd be buying is in all reality is insurance. A Watford fan posted on the Hull forum about us that from his experience, Malky would burn his team out by February. That may have been true in his last season there, but he had a small squad there just like he did his first year with us - this year is different. Adequate depth is a matter of opinion amongst supporters and most have suggested we're light at full back and up front because of the Maynard absence. I've always agreed with that - we need an option up front just as much now as when we shelled out £2.75M for him - that need hasn't gone away. I suppose it depends on two things. How much you should spend on insurance, and is the policy actually available to buy (or loan)?
A real dilemna for Malky. I think our squad is good enough with the exception of full back. Does Malky risk upsetting the balance and togetherness of this squad by buying a couple of new players? That's a tough decision for him to make.
If we stand still whilst others strengthen then we run the risk of others closing the gap or even overtaking us. We have a togetherness and balance that we would not wont to disrupt but we all know that a full back or 2 is required and if you bring a striker in and lose him straight away its fair to assume that you would want to replace him. So on that note I think it is reasonable to assume that we will be on the look out for a top striker to help push on and get the goals to fire us into the prem. whilst we strengthen at the back with I think a right back to go into the starting 11 not a bench warmer.
Wood is the obvious choice for me and I can't see why he'd go to another Chapionship club. But!!!!!!!!!!! he is happy at Millwall and in any case WBA may not be willing to sell him
I think that is Malky saying we would not pay silly money, if the price is right I expect 2 new players.
Whoever we sign needs to be good enough to be a premiership squad player at least. 2 full backs and a tap in merchant if we can. The first 2 more important than the latter I feel. It may be that we can make proper use of the loan market.
