What do you have to say now?
"sell him" "Useless" "not good enough for this level"

Monk has consistantly proved what a value he is to the team.
Lets start by forgetting about the football for one moment (wierd thing to say?) Monk is a fantastic person to have around the club. An inspirational captain, really encourages all the players, and always makes Ashley Williams play better when playing. He leads from the front - playing when not fit! Did anyone see the article about the injections he is taking to be playing?! crazy, not to have feeling in your right leg. But he is playing because he is putting Swansea first ahead of himself. Without him Swansea would be in a very bad position.

Now onto the football, Monks performances this season have been very good on average. Today was another example of how valuable he is to the team. The commentators (not radio Wales) were purring about his tactical play today. How he completely had control of what was going on, not ball watching, holding off Croutch, etc... Magnificent performance from him.

Some people say he was at fault for Chelsea, I thought he did pretty well, wasn't incredible, but playing against strikers like Torres, Drogba - I would say they are better than most CBs in the world let alone in the Prem League.

So my hats off to Mr Garry. A great man playing for Swansea City, and is leading our club by example.

Rhys I don't think anyone hates monk at all, to say so demeans your argument !!

I have said from the start that I don't think monk will make the step up , the same as tate, but I would be very happy if proved wrong, today he did well for us and all credit to him.

I was waiting for this one.

Get one thing straight. Because posters criticise players from time to time doesn't mean they 'hate' them. A very poor choice of words, Rhys. I was one of many who criticised Monk, particularly after the Chelsea game. Why? Because imo he was at fault for at least 2 of the 4 goals scored due to his complete lack of positional nous.

Today he looked like a different player. I'd have given him man of the match by a country mile. It's up to him to do his talking on the pitch and prove the doubters like me wrong. Fair play he did that today, though still gave the ball away on occasions but he wasn't alone in that. If he puts performances like that in week after week I'd be more than happy to be proved wrong. Only time will tell.

Rhys, I was one of those that defended Monk when others were questioning the wisdom of retaining him, but now is not the time to turn on the doubters, Monk did his talking on the pitch today as in other games and on the training pitch day in and day out, revel in the moment of 3 more points gained, 3 points closer to safety

Garry Monk haters?? Come on now Rhysj, don't think I've read anyone posting anything coming close to that, you are being over the top, unless I've missed something here, I'm not a fan of Monk at this level, or giving players pain killing injections for that matter, and there's no doubt that Monk had a great game today, but one performance, against a poor Stoke side, coming off the back of an Euro game, think you need to keep your hat on Rhysj son!....................

PS: Great to see Danny boy off the starting line with a well taken goal, may there be many more aye! How come our goal difference is better that QPR??................

Not turning on anybody, but felt passionately to write something about Monk, because he gets a lot of criticism on here, imo unfairly.

Hate - not really the important word...Doubter is the same thing to me in this instance.

Just wanted to aknowledge Monks performance, and to let some know about it, just incase they missed it

Rhys - stop being a pillock. Smugness and schadenfreude are ugly traits. Most regular posters who have criticised Monk in recent times have done so for valid reasons - not just for the fun of it. As Dragon says, let's see how he does in the next few games. One swallow does not a summer make!

Like I said, full credit today - an outstanding display from him. <applause>

Rhys, it is part of a footballer's lot to get pelters when they play badly and praise when they do well. I am delighted, absolutely delighted, to praise Garry Monk for his effort today. Great job and then some!!

BUT: I have criticised him in the past for some pretty patchy performances (eg. Chelsea) and will do so again if he deserves it. Personally, I am not convinced by his pedigree in terms of a full PL season and I feel that he will settle down to become third choice centre back. This is not to demean Garry because he is a superb clubman and brilliant to have around, so I'm reliably informed.

I'm honestly chuffed that he came through so well for us today - MOM, imo. If he continues to perform as well as this (even more credit-worthy considering his injury) then he will have elevated himself into a starting position. Great for the club and great for him. A big well done from me.

hit the road - it's only a bit of banter, no need to get so serious.

Of course people have said what they said about Monk because thats what they thought...There would be no other reason to say it otherwise...I'm saying I don't agree with them, so, as the old saying goes on 606, it's all about opinions and debate.

Theres been talk about this place being a bit dead around here recently. Maybe it's because Dai has sobered up a bit?

Anyway, be cheefull, a good win for us today! And Wales through to the quaters of the RWC.

    Cymru am byth

No, no more functions....But I was at a wedding reception at the Liberty last month, and it was right by Huws office, so I popped in to say Hi, and to see if he remembered me. He seemed quite amused to see me again.
And as much as he is a nice mine, he is indeed a skint flint. Wouldn't dare waist his money in a place such as Aspers.....But if I recall i'm pretty sure thats where he was the night before the awards as well. He said it was a big night! haha

He's down to earth is old Huw, even if he does drive around in a black smerk, I had us down for a 1-1 draw today, so the win was a pleasant surprise!............

Monk was awesome today , doesnt mean he will be awesome every game though , one swallow doesnt make a summer does it?

He has showed us what most of us thought he would, against the lesser sides he will be able to compete and against the top sides he will be exposed . There is nothing wrong in that! alot of our team will get exposed this season at some point , monk used his experience to full effect today ,it will be great for confidence keeping another clean sheet.

The weak links today for me were Gower and Vorm, our goal keeper looks more shaky the more games he plays!! but he still makes saves dorus could only dream about :)
This is something we will have to get used to though ,next game it will be someone else ,if these players could perform at the top % every game they wouldnt be playing for the swans , there were many heroes on that field today ,they battled hard and got their rewards, chuffed for DG ,took his goal really well ,luke moore looks like being inches away from world class sometimes ,he makes skill look easy and when/if the mood takes him could be a real player for us.

Im not afraid to say that i was one who thought Monk would struggle at this level but he has proved that he is capable of putting a shift in at this level and has been important in the games he has played.

Saying that, if i were to pick between Williams, Monk and Caulker, all fully fit, for the 2 CB positions i have to say i would still pick Williams and Caulker, thats not me 'hating' him but thats the reality of the situation IMO

Agree whole heartedly with Gower as he has a mare today, as for your assessment of Vorm i have to question you alcohol intake during matchtimes lol. Cant say a keeper is getting more shaky when we have 4 clean sheets at home, but in fairness he didnt have the best game against Chelsea, but then again none of our players did
