Expect a few more of these type of reports from the media, on the back of the Sterling "windfall"....A journo's dream.
David McItyre has a tad more credibility than most though I accept he is a journo who has to eat like the rest of us!
Assuming the reason we'd be in for another midfielder would be because were expecting some departures (Sandro, Hoilet, Fer, Phillips?). Could we please have some rumours of us being in for a few defenders, to say our defence is looking threadbare is an understatement, if we don't get 2-3 additions in soon I may have to find my old boots & volunteer
Ultimately, that is the only way surely? I'm sure it is not impossible but is there any team that was promoted to The Championship or PL, did not spend anything and did not get relegated? I know Burnley spent very little last season but did get relegated.
Well, I use the expression 'buying his way out of the league' in the sense that he purely buys it, rather than building a foundation to make us a stronger team; a team that truly deserves promotion and then can withstand the onslaught of the Premier League. But, last time, we got promoted not by being organised and with a good foundation. We got promoted because our squad was better than pretty much all the others in the league. And, due to our shoddy organisation, accidentally knicked the third promotion slot but subsequently found ourselves utterly unprepared for the next season in the EPL.
I'm not too sure that TF has much input this season. He's been firmly put on the back-burner. The 'shots' are being called by Sir Les, Ramsey, Ruben and Hoos. That's why we have a more conservative and targeted approach to acquisitions. There maybe one that stands out from the rest though if they feel it will elevate the squad. If anyone appears to be buying their way out of this league look no further than 'Boro.
Dave gets carried away with things sometimes. Remember 2 weeks ago Morrison was inbound and then he plays for Lazio.
Me if the fit physio turns up later to sign me off from here. 50% chance of her, 50% chance of the other one who to be fair I'd gladly sling one up also
With the amount of players we've let go and are selling if we didn't sign any players then we wouldn't have enough senior players to put a squad together. Shouldn't moan if some of those players are good
Of course he is, and that is how it should be. You have to buy when 50% of your team has gone, and you don't buy just to stay in the league. The difference this time is that our buying is more controlled (so far) and the wages are not off the scale. The wages of the five main signings this summer still don't amount to the wages of Barton and SWP.
It's great that SWP is gone but I still think Barton could of been very useful in the Championship. That is where he probably is best suited now. One can only assume that he still requested PL pounds on his new contract.
Never heard of him personally Samba Diakite could be the most interesting development of the Summer, I wonder if he's in Ramsey's plans.
