Having this arguement at work at the moment and though you lot could put the arguement to bed. I say under achiever.

I wouldn't say he is an under achiever. He wasn't here long enough to be a full blown hero but the hatrick v Barca gave him cult status!!!

Cult status for Barca goals and his fun celebration but not a club legend. Club legend status is reserved for the likes of Beardsley, Shearer, Lee, Solano, etc.

Cult Hero, I think anyone who scores a hat-trick vs Barcelona deserves some credit.

Classic cult figure, for all his flaws both on and off field (proto Balotelli?) he scored three past Barcelona. Not a legend in the truest sense but cool as hell with some decent footballing highlights too.

He was a cult hero, but was criminally inconsistent. I never really took to him personally, probably because his inclusion in the team usually meant that Shearer or Ferdinand were injured or that Beardsley had been left out. His goalscoring record was distinctly average, if he wasn't so much of a character he would've been long forgotten by now, there's also the small matter of the Barca game of course.

Love the bloke and his time here. He was a colourful and entertaining character who was ridiculously talented. However he was never professional enough to make use of his obvious natural talent, and bar a few games, was largely poor for us. Obviously he achieved cult hero status with his Barca goals, and that was a glimmer of just what he was capable of. Under achiever and hero for me.

Ba reminds me of him a bit.

But Asprilla was brilliant - sure inconsistent, but on his day great to watch.
