Ah you were not about in the mid 70's then?
When AD nearly spit his dummy when the Cheese was signed by Norwich according to someone who was there the air turned blue as he told the scouts what he thought of them because they had sat on the report trying to decide if they were going to recomend him or not.

    What's new?

Seriously. All I hear is words. Words that reference what must have been the whole focus of our academy system for ever.

I don't get the gushing over our academy system. The only manager in recent times to give a **** about our academy was McInnes, and that wasn't even a year ago. In that time we've lost a number of our best prospects, and absolutely no one has risen from the ranks, aside perhaps from Bryan.

In my mind, the only reason Tinnion is back is to appease the fans that are upset that we're pouring money into an academy that has done absolutely nothing for us. There is absolutely nothing new about the academy now compared to last year.

apart from it being a category 2 academy <doh>

I said this in another thread about 2/3 months ago. We wont see the rewards of our academy for at least another 6-9 years maybe a little bit longer. The players we have now will be pushing through to our first team, Reid, Burns, Bryan, Ajala. 4 is a good number to have come from the academy into the first team. In 9 years time all the now 11 year olds out there will be pushing through, At the moment they are still learning and we have acted in the right way by bringing in the best possible coaches and staff for these kids so that when they are 19/20 they will be better than the reids bryans and burns of this current academy. We will see the rewards but we just have to be patient.

What's new l?Staffing, funding and status. Massive increase 100%+ in overheads. Different set up now here and at clubs all over. - EPPP.

I would hope Tinnion is there to help get the best out of the 800k it will take to run it.

The only thing that is brand new is the category system. To my knowledge, we've got the same number of scouts working with the youth as we did before.

The staffing is largely the same. We've had a minor reshuffle, and the youth players get more face time with a coach. We've hardly built the Ajax Academy.

£800k a year on an academy that hasn't produced the goods for a long time. That's a solid Championship player a year.

Massive changes all across country. Some clubs have abandoned academies clubs like Crewe downsized!!

Hardly a club in the UK can meet what the Dutch in general do this has to come from all fa to epl no chance really.

City have been getting solid hunts James Stewart's Stuyvars and lost forty million

Academy lads can join at nine. I would klike to see emphasis on kids below that age. The continents start younger and contact between young kids and qualified coaches is highly structured.

Increase the amount of talented and skilled nine year olds, that produces more Bryans, Burns ... Increases the possibility of finding the one,, while also fulfilling the role of a community centred/regional football club.

Football development abroad can be measured in terms of fifteen years plus.
