Its over, we're down. We will go down as the worst team ever to grace the premier league and we (the club, not the fans) deserve it. I know we've had Sunderland and Derby bow out with less points, but for sheer collective neglect, vitriol and bad taste, we are the worst and as such a laughing stock. We've been lower of course but I was never ashamed of my club before, I was teased but I always had the fall back of being a minnow and having no money, now we donât have such excuses. We all know this, it's been said and done now by everyone from the press to our manager himself, but enough is enough. From now on I want to see some positivity come out of our club. The release of the new kits for next season, and very nice they were, is a good start. It may have been a good time to release some good news, but thatâs just what we needed. We all know that this player and that needs to go and that player isn't good enough but from now on I donât think its in our interest to be throwing names and rumors around (and be our I mean the club) as it helps no one. The club is a mess and its time now to clean it up. Things that need to happen now. No more playing to the press. If there isn't a story there's no reason for us to be in the news. We're not a big club, lets get some dignity back and conduct our business in house. The manager needs to stop, just stop. Naming and shaming might work in isolated contexts but branding huge swathes of the playing staff as negative influences helps us not one jot. I cannot believe that Fernandes is allowing this to continue as it helps absolutely no one except Harry Redknapp himself distance himself from failure. Every time he opens his mouth its a story and every time it shows the club in a bad light. I want some commitment from Redknapp. This isn't a game, its our club. If you're not interested then please walk. He took us down, he needs to show some responsibility. No ultimatums, no excuses, just commit yourself to the future of the club. Instead of slagging off the squad after the liverpool game, why not comment on the development of Harriman or our U18 playoff win? Why not give us some positives and shut the press up at the same time? TF needs to get at least one football savvy person on the board close to him. We are not good enough to be a product yet, we're a very small club and a lot of the ambition he has shown, as well intended as it has been, has saddled our club with players to increase his exposure rather than our stature. He needs to have a mentor, an old head who can advise him on football at this level. When I speak to people here in Africa, they say of QPR 'you should buy X, you should buy Y' listing all the time big players, they say 'what is the point of being a small club?' as they donât understand the real football mentality, only the 'pop' football culture, the icing and façade, I feel that Fernandes is very similar and he needs to learn quickly that there are many deeper layers than this. An announcement about the stadium. If its ready to be announced then announce it, give the fans some optimism for the long-term. Donât tease us with twitter remarks. No more Fernandes on Twitter. You're not a pop star, you're the chairman of a football team. Lets be professional off the pitch and we might see it transcend to the playing surface. I for one am really looking forward to the new season and I'm optimistic about our chances. No, I don't like Redknapp and wouldnt be at all disappointed if he walked, but he's who we've got. Why shouldn't we challenge? At the moment though from the manager I see nothing but negativity and it filters down to us fans. The club need to take a step back, shut up shop for the summer and quietly go about decent business of reenergizing a completely broken team. We donât have bad players, we just cant seem to stop being a bad team with a bad image and I really think that the latter is fairly easy to change and it can only help the former to succeed
AMEN KAMPALA...!! Any chance you could work at the club?..totally agree with every word...post of the month for me !
thanks Q, the Ugandan job is also currently available, though i was talking tactics with the former manager shortly before his dismissal… Might be a good job that I'm soon to be Kathmandu Hoop!! I dont think its rocket science and we've got it wrong so many times seemingly picking policy out of a hat that i sincerely feel that sooner or later we have to pick the right one. The club just needs some discipline and those who dont want to be here from the top up, need to walk now so we can press the reset bottom
Great post mate, agree regarding Redknapp if only to keep some stability, even though his comments and body language suggest he'll walk. Like everybody else I wish he would shut up and knuckle down.
seems to be a south of the equator thread (ok technically I'm 4 miles north of it!!). I'm just waiting for the next Redknapp interview now, fingers crossed he will move on, not mention his current squad and only talk about next season
Bizarre that, considering the circus we have become, we are currently the bookies favourites to win the NPC next year. http://www.oddschecker.com/football/english/championship/next-season-winner Totally agree with the OP about the whole Twitter/ washing dirty laundry in public. Very much hoping things will calm down and that Harry will shut his trap. Moreover I want us to get rid of the mercenaries - get a few younger, keener, longer-term prospects in - and turn us back into something approaching a football club. Frankly I'm not that unhappy with the idea that we spend a year or two in the NPC preparing for a realistic assault on the summit. Can't help thinking that Harry is not the man to take us onwards (happy to be proved wrong). But even accepting the upheaval it would cause, I do think we need a younger, more technically aware, modern manager who can (and most of all really wants) to see the project through. Not someone whose only plan is to chuck big money at the problem. The time for managers who consistently sign the same players over and over again, or go back to raid their previous clubs are short of ideas and are out of date. If I were TF I would be pissed off at the lack of effort to unearth new talent. Be interested to see what the scouting department have come back with - because it's evident that it has either blatantly been ignored or turned up bugger all.
Totally agree The problem we've had since TF became involved is short-termism. We signed 'proven' players in Barton, Ferdinand and SWP (I'm a barton fan, but lets leave that to the barton thread). It didnt really work so we sacked the manager despite being in 17th place. So we went for a 'proven' manager and then another transfer window to make up for the last one which by all accounts was rather rushed and i was happy enough with what we did.. Anyway, another window comes and once again we set our stool out with 'proven' players, the Cisses of this world, and nothing really changed, we didnt progress, we didnt move up the table and perhaps most worryingly of all (overlooked due to the elation of survival) we never had a style, we didnt 'look' like QPR, we didnt look like anyone at all, we just played football in a sort of grey and forgettable way. So then the summer comes, another new transfer window, and what do we do? 'Proven' players, and they arrive by the bucket load, not one, but three champions league winners to add to the one we had already! Remarkable! The bookies, because they know best, had us no where near the drop zone, Lawrenson was so bedazzled he gave us so many early win predictions we finished 8th in the league! But sadly, the greyness was still there, the team didnt develop into, well, a team! So out goes hughes and you know what to do now? 'Proven' manager! Of course! Who could blame TF though, he had to bring in Redknapp didnt he? You cant mess around with a young pup when you need to survive at all costs, bring in the magician who's done it all before. Of course to do that you'll need more 'proven' players, because that's worked so well up to now! BRING IN THE INTERNATIONALS! And in they came and down we went. Im sick of proven players, I want someone i've never heard of before appearing from League 2 and grabbing 20 goals, I want people I'm intrigued by, people that other people start to big up, i want promising young players and unsung heroes but more than any of this I want us to TRY AND FINALLY DO SOMETHING THE RIGHT WAY!! Harry at the club this summer smacks to me of a proven manager again bringing in proven players. It doesnt work anymore. Football is fickle and this type of approach won't cut it. Managers are smarter, players do their homework or have scouts to do it for them and a 'triffic lad from Spurs or someone who tore up the premiership 7 years ago isn't going to swan in and take the league by storm anymore, not this league. I see a lot of people talk about HR watching a lad from Palace or a youngster from Leicester and its positive, it really is and i hope that this is the sort of scouting that will be done, we need to look at the teams who have got promoted in the last 5 years, what marked them out? Who were their lynchpins? Then transfer this information into todays game and develop it. Thats what i see managers in the modern world as doing and I'm just not sure HR and his band of merry men are out there doing it. I hope I am wrong, but if not then they need to walk now and give us 2-3 years to develop an actual team, I'm sick of giving it one last shot.
I've just realized i've been lulled into a rant that totally contradicts my original post!! Im still positive and i cant wait for the new season. I hope we do it the right way is all!
Kampala Hoop. Could not agree more with the point regarding the comments in the media. You're spot on with suggesting Redknapp could have mentioned that Harriman had a decent game for us. Our fans needed something to be optimistic about for next season, we got nothing about from the reminder of how difficult things are going to be. Being optimistic can be difficult can't it?

To be fair to Harold (and I'm not really in the mood for that), he was positive about Harriman in the post Liverpool match press conference, albeit very briefly.
i must have missed that so I'm sorry if i jumped the gun, however instead of spending a lot of the press conference slagging off the team, he could have just said 'look, thats an internal matter that we're dealing with, id rather talk to you today about….. and mention right away the good performance by our young players recently and that he's been looking at several new players and is looking forward to next season etc etc' Ive never seen a relegated team moan and lick its wounds so much. I've not heard a whisper from Reading and everything at Wigan seems overwhelmingly positive. Come on Harry, get with it, get inspired and excited about a new challenge or get out
kampala...I remember when we signed Derry 7 Mackie and I said "who"? adel who? Ali faulin, whats his story then? these were players that made me think and find a new intrest in our club. I remember Flyer slating some of them and us arguing countless times...but they gave their all and really cared. i'd be happy with a team of unheard of's and a few decent players in key positions..why HH and connoly were sold is a mystery to me.like Flyer said in another post...HH and Rhodes would have done fine...F-me, can you imagine HH and Remy?!! We need our Ali back and a team of skilled player who want to win. I watch Spanish football a lot and if you watch closely team like barca work really hard off and when they don't have the ball. they really graft and want to get it back and control the game. the fact that some of them are the best players on the planet and they still run their nuts off is what makes them so good..... In short, I just want someone who wants to win and is willing to try for our club.....
I've posted a couple of times about Granero to point out he (playing "slow" as he does) cannot be as successful as he could be if the rest of the team don't work to get into position to receive his passes. I think Granero will find somewhere else to play, but I hope Ali F has discovered his mojo and is willing to come back to us and do it all again.
