http://www.thenorthernecho.co.uk/sp..._hand_Graham_his_golden_chance_at_Sunderland/ Its articles and manager comments like these that really worry me as a Sunderland fan. Not only is Danny Graham a championship standard footballer at best, he's an average one as well. Why even comment otherwise? Far from building on or handing second (3rd, 4th and 5th) chances we should be cutting our losses now too. We have struggled for 8 years to establish ourselves in the EPL and its no coincidence that also coincides with us filling our team and squad with already previously relegated players and second raters like Graham. We've cut our losses with Jozy and now we should do likewise with several others including and starting with DG. If he is handed another unwarranted opportunity to play again this season for us, then I sadly can also only foresee more relegation threatened weeks ahead and more alarming, Gus facing similar issues to all his recent predcessors and ultimately his P45. Nice lads or not they aren't good enough and should be cast aside. We need better and deserve better than that IMO.
He's on high wages, if he was willing to take a pay cut he'd have been sold already. The club is obviously not going to buy his contract out when shifting him out on loan will reduce part of his wages. 6 month and season long loans whilst paying part of his wages is the best we can hope for here unfortunately. Bright side if we can shift him till the end of the season we could see another addition on loan. Someone please ****ing take him for a while. The relegation thing. With the width returning with PVA and Jones, the creativity returning with Giacc and Alvarez, with Defoe coming in, the switch in system and the upcoming fixtures. I expect us to pull away bit giving us some breathing room.
His two recent performances have put splinters in my arse tbh, wouldnt be surprised if he starts against fulham, its his last chance saloon i reckon. Whats gus supposed to say? Cant lambast the fella he's on our books being paid a fortune, confidence is massive, any player that pulls on the ahirt deserves backing from fans also, you never know mate, might end up like a new signing, highly doubt it though, but stranger things have happened
If Danny Graham becomes an integral part of our plans I can't see any positives Funky. Its a massive backwards step as shown on Saturday. Defoe would have scored that rebounded shot and so would Giacherinni IMO. To have played a proven waste of space over an Italian international was a gargantuan error on Gus's part for me. To continue to make it will only result in heartbreak for us as fans and ultimately, the manager himself.
Seeing him in a Sunderland shirt has made my are twitch tbh. All the positives Defoe might bring will be lost if he is partnered or replepaced each game with DG IMO.
Unless he bangs in a hatrick on saturday he will not get ahead of fletch & wickham and defoe, he is our 4th choice striker now, reckon we pay him too much Senior career* Years Team Apps† (Gls)† 2004–2007 Middlesbrough 15 (1) 2004 → Darlington (loan) 9 (2) 2005–2006 → Derby County (loan) 14 (0) 2006 → Leeds United (loan) 3 (0) 2006 → Blackpool (loan) 4 (1) 2007 → Carlisle United (loan) 11 (7) 2007–2009 Carlisle United 89 (29) 2009–2011 Watford 91 (38) 2011–2013 Swansea City 54 (15) 2013– Sunderland 15 (0) 2013–2014 → Hull City (loan) 18 (1) 2014 → Middlesbrough (loan) 18 (6) 2014 → Wolverhampton Wanderers (loan) 5 (1)
Wont happen mate, gus is getting him up for the fight in that article imo, incase we dont ofload, would love to see us recoup some dough but mo'n gave him too much of a lucrative contract, the fower eyed twat
A goal every 5-6 games? Appaling stats for a striker. That's even average for a winger.23 goals in 5 seasons. He's part of the problem here not part of the solution.
But we're stuck with him on the books weather we like it or not. I'd have Mandron in front of him and hope he gets the nod against fulham instead off DG. I'll back DG on the terraces and hope he proves me wrong but I'm really not holding my breath. Wigan want him on loan apparently, hope they make their move quick, then we can give Mandron a chance or bring a loan in till the end of the season.
Over the years strike partnerships are formed and maybe MON saw Fletcher/Graham as a good one, at Boro Clough had Peacock, at Blackburn Shearer had Sutton, Quinn/Phillips and so on. Maybe there is a partnership that GP sees within our four current strikers. They are what we have and they protected by their contracts so play the hand we have. Graham has never been a principal striker but his service to us has been tempered with massive bias against him from the beginning leading to his obvious lack of confidence.
Sorry, don't agree mate. Lots didn't want him for various reasons. For me it wasn't because of a flippant comment as a Mag against us, I thought that was fair enough and tongue-in-cheek, it was because I didn't think much of him as a striker. IIRC despite that when he pulled on the shirt he had support on here, and more importantly in the SoL, and he had a long run of games with Fletcher crocked. That was his chance. He tried. He did his best. But he was ****e.
