Now is the time to show our support for Gomis, I have always rated the lad and am still confident he will do the business for us as I have stated in previous threads. Huw Jenkins is also of this opinion as he quoted in his interview yesterday. " I am sure he will settle here. He is happy living here and so are his family. Yes ideally he would have liked to play more but now he has the chance to do that and I expect him to show what a good player he is". If it's good enough for Huw it should be good enough for us, after all he's the one in the know!!
He has shown few reasons to suggest he's going to become a regular goal scorer (so far) and I think it was poor business to keep him if a good offer was on the table in January, but I have always supported him and will continue to do so while he is a Swans player.
He's got a very difficult task ahead following in Bony's footsteps, there were plenty of supporters that thought Bony wasn't up too much. The mind boggles!
The only trouble is, where would we have found a suitable replacement. At least now if we are yo sell him in the summer, we have 5 months to scout the right replacement.
I'm a fan of him. His hold up play against Saints was outstanding - he can get it down and very easily turns people for a big boy. Knowing when to hold onto it and when to play it first time to a winger/Shelvey. He didn't win every ball knocked up to him, but believe it or not, neither did Bony. He celebrated the goal pretty wildly with the fans and with the team and that's a very good sign. Knowing that he spent the first half of the season sulking, mainly coming off the bench full of resentment, I'm willing the write-off the first half the season as he was never going to perform under those circumstances. For me, Bafétimbi Gomis' Swansea career started on Saturday. Go get 'em, son!
Dont rate him and he will be gone in the summer. While he is here I will support him. He will be lucky to score 5 goals till the end of the season. He is simply not a natural goalscorer. I can't wait for him to leave all that **** in the paper and on twitter about being a jack is just trying to suck up to gllible fans for his appalling behaviour earlier in the month.
The onus is on him to prove himself as far as I'm concerned sbulby. So far, unfortunately, the only thing he's shown us is that he's adept at talking crepe to the French press. When he starts talking on the pitch I'll start backing him.
TBH I'm not particularly sold on him and doubt he'll score many now we are out of the League Cup and FA Cup; but if he can take defenders away to make space for others to score I'll be reasonably happy. What I find hard to understand is why we didn't accept an offer this January. I can't believe a striker who doesn't score often (hopefully, maybe that will change) who will be 30 at the start of the next season will be attracting anything near a bid that will allow us to break even or even close.
That he did well on Sunday , and if you look at his position when Shelvey scored he'd got into a great position to have a go himself , if Shelvey had got a pass to him
Bony started off slow and fans were saying he was a waste of money so i wont write off gomis yet as his record elsewhere shows him to be an excellent player. he done well in the saints game and showed all the signs he is happy here.
I don't think anyone could ever say that, even early doors, what a beast at holding up the ball Bony was, we will miss that, just hope Gomis starts his talking on the pitch soon, just need him to start burying them now...........
I don't think so, but reports about all our other targets, out and ins were all pretty accurate (including the £25 mn for Bony rather than an 'astronomical offer') though none were confirmed ahead of deals being done. So I'd say enquiries may have been made but I sceptical any firm offer was on the table or he'd have gone. Done now, so hopefully we'll see him settled and performing well. TBF our attending supporters are very, very patient with players and don't put pressure on them.
I thought he was great on Sunday. Decent team you've got there even without Bony and Sigurdsson. Good hold up play from Gomis, good movement from Shelvey, Dyer tracked back all game, Williams was quality and no. 58 also seemed decent. Well played.
I've no doubt at all that Gomis will be a success with us. He's a very talented player, he's got what it takes to make the very top in my opinion. It's been very difficult for him since his arrival with no regular game time, but he can now settle down and start scoring. Unfortunately for him we have a lot of injuries which doesn't help his cause, and with Siggy suspended doesn't help as they need time to start to gel together. Most seem to be annoyed at what he said in the media which in all probability was taken out of context, now he says he's happy some don't believe him, Huw Jenkins and Garry Monk seem more than happy with him and in all honesty they are the ones that should know.
