Hughtons comments after the match are baffling regarding the taking of the penalty, He says everyone on the bench expected RVW to have taken the penalty and he will take them in future, So it appears Snodgrass took it upon himself to take it. His attitude and performance levels of late stink, He seems to be more interested in winning free kicks and arguing than playing the game. His delivery of the ball from set plays and open plays has been really poor. But to take the penalty over the designated taker is arrogance and its time he was knocked down a few pegs.
Sorry, but that's poor management. The penalty taker should have been chosen before the match, surely?
Well by Hughtons comments it seems that RVW is the designated taker and Snodgrass decided he was having it, if i were Hughton i would have subbed him there and then.
It's a bit worrying if players are ignoring as direct an instruction as that from Hughton. RVW should have stood his ground as well if that is the case; players should want to take penalties.
Hey, lighten up, guys. At least when the statisticians have finished with it, it'll count as a shot on target WooHoo!
I'm more inclined to think the lack of creativity has far more to do with the constant selection of Redmond who cannot pass or set up his team mates for toffee. He's not ready for top flight football. He's one dimensional in his thinking which is benefiting no-one but himself (even that is very rare). He's like a much better version of Lee Croft, fools everyone into thinking he's good for the team but produces very little.
This season that seems to be the case. If you really think that based on what you saw of him last season, you didn't see enough of him.
The best thing that happened to snodgrass last year was when Elliot Bennett was selected instead of him away at villa and he had to come off the bench it seemed to kick start some great form for him. Hope it works again Pilks is far more deserving of a spot I really really rate him
Robert snodgrass ‏@robsnodgrass7 Never good losing the lads gutted as much as the fans, but the fans questioning our passion and desire ..... Have you seen the game ???
With you on Redmond, Carrabuh. He's struggled to have an effect in the last couple of games. I think we would have looked better if the sub was the other way round. Bringing Redmond on later to use his pace against tired defenders. I suggest you watch some of redmond's performances for the England U21s if you think he can't pass though. He ran the midfield granted he was playing down the right not the left.
I'd like to see Redmond played on the right and Pilks on the left, if only for a few games. Maybe it'll spark a performance out of Snodgrass when he comes back, and seeing Redmond down that side might show what he's like as a 'traditional' (not inverted) winger, and if that's an improvement. I do think we really missed the boat not signing a new CAM, and really hope Toivonen can be convinced to join on Jan 1st. For now though I'd like to see Hoolahan back in the side, in a midfield with Tettey and Fer. I think that would offer a better balance of defensive strength, drive and creativity. It would mean losing the long-ball option though, which might kill that idea stone dead.
I agree with DH however much people moan about wes, when he's playing well everyone around him seems to play well and he can bring the best out of our attacking options I think.
It's not often you can say that one player cost you the game, but I think Snodgrass came close to doing that yesterday with his decision (against orders, it seems) to take the penalty and then telegraphing it in the way he did. His crossing was dreadful, his entire game plan now seems to be to fall down as often as he can and then harass the referee for a decision. He needs a few games in the reserves or on the bench to make him rethink his attitude. Also agree about Redmond. He seems to have won over the majority of the fans, and his goal was the difference against Southampton, but he needs to learn how to work for the good of the team and he needs to learn it fast. I'm also scared that Hoolahan is going to disappear down the same hole that swallowed up Fox and Butterfield. Hughton's preference is clearly for workhorses and destroyers, not players with finesse and creativity.
Clearly we shouldn't be changing designated penalty takers in the game but its beyond me how anyone can say Snodgrass has an attitude problem. If his form is as bad as some people seem to think then he could be forgiven for going missing but he is always available and and he wants to step up to the plate for every ball. Sure that needs controlling but the last thing we need is to bring him down a peg or two or for him to be labelled a 'big head' by Pinkun posters. His desire to win is an asset that needs to be celebrated, not crushed.
Agreed that he works hard and he is always looking for the ball and he has a great desire to win. That doesn't change the fact that his decision (presumably) to overrule his manager's orders and take the penalty was wrong on so many levels. And if Cromer's addition to this thread is the genuine Twitter account of Snodgrass, he should be publicly apologising and grovelling for being such a prat, not berating the fans for their comments. Last season he was great and was one of the key reasons we stayed up, but this season he is turning into a jerk.
He's not playing against kids for us. He's creating nothing other than repetitive cuts inside and shooting which is darn sight easier than setting up a teamate. He's not ready to be a starter.
I hope it's not becoming another of those Hughton-esque "I brought him to the club whereas I didn't bring Pilks to the club, so for me, Redmond plays every week" Can't use the same argument about Olsson / Garrido, as they're both CH signings - but why no Olsson at least on the bench??
Redmond is greedy Carrabuh I'll give you that, Snodgrass on the other hand is a ****ing mess at the moment, personally I would of dropped him a game ago.
